Sounds likely the RSI Meteor will be a mini Zeus Mantis that loses Mantis QD specialization. So a $125-range ’cheap Mantis’ utility ship.
CIG seems to be following a pattern with the Vanguard > Asgard, Prowler > Utility, and next the Mantis > Meteor (> in specialization and price).

Do you think it's filling in holes they've spotted in the overall ship line-up which they may maybe need more for NPC operations than being intended principally for player use?
Or maybe building in-verse upgrade ladder/s for that profession and ability?
I’d like to think CIG is filling niches, but seeing the number of ship choices already that’s debatable. Still, it’s great to see the expansion of roles for these otherwise specialized-use ship hulls. I suspect they are also realizing that they’ve invested designer effort into cool hulls that they could get them next ships from for lower internal development cost. Easier lifts for next new revenue while they have a large backlog to work on already.

After watching the 'Behind the Ships' for the Meteor, I'm seeing this thing ending up being just a token for LTI and CCU paths.
CIG does not have a good history with giving Medium Fighters a good treatment in the long run, they always end up too big and slow to dodge attacks and too weak to tank attacks, and an whole bunch of other issues preventing them from being able to compete.
Then there's the 2xS5 bespoke ballistic cannons...yeah...hell no, nope, no way. The only type of weapon system CIG has consistently treated worse than Ballistic Cannons are Tachyon Cannons (Singes.)
I can't help but feel this thing'll ultimately end up just being a 'glass cannon' that can't even 'cannon'.

I like it to be honest, i've been gravitating towards RSI ships for some reason lately - this makes a perfect 3 with my connie tauris and perseus.
We all know it's gonna get smashed in the face with the nerf bat though. Dont expect it to have 2 x S5 for long.

So they bailed on the 1S4 and placed 2S5. This is suddenly an interesting ship. It’s disappointing there seems to be no galley. Maybe I just can’t see it in my phone. Seems odd to not put a galley in this ship. Why all the effort for the deployable gun rack but only 1S2 slot, and no galley. Honestly, sometimes the devs seem hopelessly out of touch. If they really wanted this to say “John Wick” they should have included 2S1, 4S2 and 2S3 weapons slots. Right now what it says is “waste of space”.
The natural comparison is with the Origin 325 and Aegis Titan. The 325 is significantly faster but it is about the same speed as the Titan, which is no slouch. The Mantis has a weapons range advantage that some will leverage. The guns are bespoke so you’re stuck with them, though it looks like they added 2S2 as well. One guy is saying there are 4S3 there sticking out. I can’t imagine it has that many guns.

For the first time in a long while I'm actually liking a new ship!
I always liked the look of the mantis, never cared for it's functions though, but this, this is cool! With the bed it's a fighter I could actually use and live with!
I'm absolutely not interested in if it's meta or not for it's size, if it has enough guns if it has the bestestest anything.... I play games for the fun not the office work...
The bespoke guns I'm not so keen on. Why not just add a new line of cannons to the game, first introduced on this ship?
And yeah that floor gunrack is cool but that section of the ship looks like a huge waste of space. I know not every ship needs to be maxed out with all the things, but still that's a lot of nothing there that could have supported a couple of extra seats or cargo space or anything really... It's gonna get filled with bodies and random loot anyways. All floor space is loot space.
TLDR, Really like how it looks, possibly something I could use as a small daily, has a bed and space for some loose loot even. Bespoke guns are a letdown. Won't exchange my original pledge 300i ever, but would buy it in game.

Real perty, I'm thinking this ship is along the lines of the Vanguard, the interior suggests a long range ship that can get places rather than carrier based rides which while maybe more capable in performance and pew pew can't go very far.
But long range and limited ballistic ammo are a contradiction in terms - you have to stay close to civilisation to get a reload, not go deep-space...?
I'll be interested to hear how this measures up to other ships carrying two s5's like the Glaive and Guardian?

So, I went over it again more carefully and I do not believe what’s in the vid.
While the dev says it has an S4 missile launcher, it has 4S4 missile launchers. So if you’re like me and predisposed to S2 missiles, you can load 4 quad shots of Rattlers. That’s as good as it gets in any fighter.
It does appear to sport 4S3 weapons —same as a Sabre. Plus it appears to have a 2S2 turret, and the 2S5 weapons featured. I’m pretty sure this is the most firepower of any fighter. Certainly if true, it is more than the Vanguard. If you load all NDBs, you’re hitting just below 4k. 2 Deadbolt V hit for just over 3k and a quad Rattler salvo strikes for 4k. This all in a package faster, more maneuverable and smaller sig than any heavy fighter. The Mantis has 0% armor so if they keep this, this ship should stealth in at about 3k, easily beating the Guardian into submission. And the bridge view is superb.
I don’t see a galley. The devs said it has what you need to live out of so perhaps they think storing food in a box is all you really need, and that would be true. However, they did not give a closeup of whatever is standing amidships aft, facing forward. That could be a galley.
I still think execution on the deployable gun rack is horrifically flawed, to the point of gross stupidity. It should carry three times as many weapons. Where do I put my railgun? How much cooler would this be if it had 10 rifle slots, 5 port and 5 starboard, plus pistols, grenades and ammo? Why do the devs need this to be explained to them? Have they never seen the closet inside the house of a Texan?
But I really love it. Can’t wait to see the signature and flight envelop figures. Still not in Erkul. It is listed in the Ship Performance Viewer, but the link doesn’t work yet.

It's sort of interesting, but I think I'll pass on it.
It's design is meh for me(not a Mantis fan), though the bed and firepower are positives.

Nope. My Super Hornet, F7A and Saber variants will chew this ship up. If you try to fight a PvP pilot who is half-way decent in this thing, you will die. Cannon are too slow and this is a fat ass target too.. So it's a hard pass for me. PvE is about all someone should use this ship for.
You’re comparing apples and oranges. There is no bed in the ships you’re talking about so you can’t live out of them, can’t do fps bunkers, caves, etc. and can’t cross large systems like Pyro.
Please tell me it's not another ship with a bed that assumes you are fine with err... releasing your business into your spacesuite?
I mean if you got a bed in your ship you'll stay out there for a long time, right?

Oh well... probably better since there is no friggin' Loo as stated previously...

How else do you think they replenish the ammo on those ballistic canon? Ballistics on a ship supposed to stay out in the void for a while, I just can't see it working out...
True, that's the other thing that rubbed me the wrong way.
With the F7C "Heartbreaker" the big balistic guns (BBG's) (or BFGs?) made sense. That ship come in hot , blasts away for a minute or two and leaves without even asking "Was it as good for you as it was for me?".
Now that Meteor, it obviously was made to stay away from home for a while. Hence the bed.
Makes sense if you group a couple of those with a Mantis.
Hang around that Quantum trap untill you catch something. Then overwhelm it with your short term firepower.
Or scram as soon you realize you bugged an Idris.
Makes no sense whatsoever for long camping trips into the unknown.
Self-sufficiency is king for those.
Nothing less self-suficcient than limited ammo capacity.
The one thing those guns might be good for is as a deterrent for medium to large ships.
So many easier marks out there.
And it can't carry any cargo in the first place.
Oh well, maybe it's not such a bad ride as long as you don't rely on the big guns.
And as long as the poop gameloop isn't implemented...
