I am proud of myself for not having to spend any new money today for the Perseus.
I CCU'd from the free referral hurricane.

But tbh, I want at least two....or three... so after one blows up I can immediately spawn another.
But I can't afford two or three... So then what to do?....
I really don't want to melt anything else just for RSI credit to secure a couple more.
Damn COVID economy ruined everything... can't afford anything.

Good video, fearless leader.

I can say that I got 2 of these, but I didn't pay full price. I used ccus from packs that had Carracks in them and we all know that the Carrack has jumped from $350 to a whopping $600, so I saved $250 from that alone.

I got them because with a pilot and 2 big turrets, I can jump in one with just 2 TESTies and have fun in the verse. Sure, it's a combat ship so I'll likely be escorting slow convoys or looking for a Vnaduul fight, but it's a ship that I don't need a lot of people to run well.

I know that there's thousands of TEST Squadron members, but there may only be a few hundred or even fewer in any given system at a time and having a ship that gives that much firepower for so little crew is worth a lot to me.

The turret gunners have something to do. The pilot can shoot torps. The small turrets can be bladed for all I care since it will likely be just another ship in a group and not a centerpiece. And Tanks are fine with being slow so long as the turrets are big.

Those are my thoughts on why I think this ship is so good.

(Oh and I got 2 because I tend to crash....)

It's a real cool ship I will probably work toward acquiring in the verse. I don't have infinite money to buy every ship, atm I'm just looking at getting like two large or capital sized ships that are capable of making money and some smaller mission runner as well, so I can buy more ships, and this doesn't quite fit the bill.

For a large military ship, at least a small medical bay should be standard really.

Now that I think about it, she is kind of pricy for being on the smaller side, but large enough to get the job done I suppose.
I did CCU from a spare Carrack LTI token, so smarter choice for me.
I do like how manageable she is though, only need like 1 pilot, 2 gunners, and maybe an engineer.

I'm hoping during the white box phase, more things are added and optimised.

I took one Warbond here.

Despite the critics, i bet it will be a great ship.

Ok you can field 4 * Ares instead, smaller and so on... But it cost more. And Ares are much more vulnerable to small fighters than a Perseus is. 🤨

That point aside, the Perseus is the first ship we have beside the Javelin (many dual S7- 2*S10) and the Kraken (1*dual S8) that has such big guns. For much less crew to operate !!

A javelin broadside is 3*2 S7. I'm not counting other smaller guns or the big rear S10 turret. Maybe a Javelin can shoot with 6*2 S7 if correctly positioned vs target, plus the S10 rear turret. So 3-4 Perseus will be able to match the DPS of a Javelin, and they cost less.

Why people are persuaded the S7 wont do shit against a capital? This i don't understand, just check the other Perseus thread. 🤣🤣🤣

The Ares are both anti-capital fighters and they have S7. It is not because that in its brochure we can read that the Perseus will shred sub-capitals, that it cant scratch a capital ship. It will, the guns are the same as those on Ares !!! Read the Ares Q&A about S7 guns and armor penetration and damage on capital ships.

The Perseus IS an anti-capital ship. 👍

The Eclipse and Retaliator are great ships, but once payload is dropped, they are useless, and the torpedoes are not guaranteed to hit target. 😏
Same for the Polaris, once it has shoot all its S10 torpedoes, it wont scratch a capital ship at ALL 😂

The Polaris will probably do around 2 million DPS with its torps IF they all hit.

A Perseus, based on the Ares Q&A for S7 DPS, will do at least 4*2400 DPS at 8km range (lasers), that 3.5 minutes of continuous fire at target to get the same amount of damage as a Polaris. We do not now how much time it takes to fire the 28 * S10 torps on the Polaris yet...
An Eclipse does up to 195k damage with its torps, a Retaliator up to 390k. Again, once torps depleted, they are useless and need to rearm. In the meantime, the Perseus is STILL shooting :)

Yes a Perseus wont be able to effectively defend itself against swarm of small fighters, or incoming torpedoes attack. But that is not the point, it is not his role. Such kind of ship will not operate alone, if they want to survive any fight. The Perseus is a 4 BIG guns attached on a large hull, it is not a Jack of all Trades.

Thank you, Glorious Leader!

I look forward to my Starfarer/s getting a bump in speed to at least keep pace with Percy if not outpace it... I don't know about any of the other large ships, but the SF has a top speed of about 80m/s so although slow this thing would make my craft easy prey considering the 'Farer is going to be choc-full of Go-Juice. If there is no running from it one shell to those tanks on my ass and to quote Jay from Mallrats "bickety-bam, the whole stage comes crashing down."

An interesting take, but... 10k dps? That seems awfully low, actually. 890 Jump, with it's industrial S4 shields does up to 19k continuous shield regen (overclocked). Now that's divided by 4 shield faces, I'm not entirely sure if focusing your shields on one direction will also apply to regen, but still, almost 5k continuous shield regen per face, that'd halve the DPS of those 4 guns. And that's just industrial shields. Military shields have roughly twice the regen as industrial shields. So a capital ship with 2x S4 (hypothetical) military shields would pretty much entirely negate 10k DPS.

Didn't the material specifically state that the small, automated guns could work as point defence against torpedoes?

I mean, it is just 2 turrets for defense Vs fighters and torps. The top one has a good firing angle. The bottom one is stuck behind reactors and probably won't be able to shoot at front or sides. Perseus will probably need escort more than Polaris or Idris.

I was writing that with the Polaris or Hammerhead in mind, even the Idris or Javelin. They have lots of S4-5 turrets than can be used for point defense.

Another great review, thank you!

And man, this is one iconic-looking ship. I deemed it a 'must-have' based on its looks and role before I even checked out the stats. Its in the fleet!

I'm not too worried about the med bay. I'm prepared to fight from my station until the end. But slaving the main turrets, now that is a big question.

I look forward to placing this ship into the service of our squadron. Maneuvering this ship and bringing the big guns to bear will be a blast.
