...nice pic :D Rain is good - rain keeps the water tanks full and the wood wet, so no danger of drought and/or major fires like in Canada. By the way, there seems to be some positive things to happen such as a change of wind and furtheron it has begun to rain...?

Thats a problem for Summer here when the heatwaves of 45C hit, will always get huge fires going somewhere, the difference between Australia and Canada is there population is all over the place while ours tends to stick to the major cities. Australia is basically one big arid desert after all. Id imagine the situation in Canada would be on the improve......need an update from the Canadians!

I yesterday looked onto the globe and was - again - impressed how huge Canada is. Its hardly to imagine nor to understand that this land, which has x-times the size of good ol' Germany, has such a dense population that those fires threaten such many people.

Here in Germany we are having 227 inhabitants per km², in Canada there are 3,5, in Australia 2,9 inhabitants per km² (Monaco: 15.268 inh./km² ). Keeping that in mind, I may be mistaken, but I think that it is bad luck that those fires hit such dense populated area in Canada......? Perhaps an act of incendiarism...?

Was it arson? Not sure I've seen the cause of it yet. Well since Canada has a climate thats more inclined to have forrests, you have a dry spell for that region (30C+) and its bad news for everyone. We have certain trees here that require a fire for them to reproduce and the seedlings to sprout. Strange things for different places. Well Europe was always going to be full of people, wonder how China and India compare since thats where the world population is exploding!

Just curious, are you for or against the illegal immigrants thats swamping Europe currently? Here we have a "stop the boats" policy here and plonk them in another pacific country and pay them lots of money to take them! Like whats going on with Turkey I guess!

Whooo, politics - we shouldn't go in there. ;) But to state it in a couple of words: Germany is in urgent need of those people! Our society is "overmatured", means: we have way too much old people and a far too little amount of young people; and those (note: not all, but way too much) are living in a safe world full of service, food and social media. Who needs to work for a living...? So, lets name it: Those immigrants are gold for us! They WANT to work, they are motivated to change something, to become part of us, and their money will help our social systems to survive. But then there is the other side, the 10% who impose of us, of our social systems - PLUS the radical German right-wing parties, who even make things worse. Long story short: our criminial rate (local) has risen a 100% since last year(!) and the emotions are killing every logical factor. For sure, our news channels and newspaper make a (not minor) contribution on that situation, because its as always: only bad news are good news. So stir the fire, make the immigrants suffer, earn the money ...
Gotta puke on that. My hope is, that this whole topic calms down some day, that our police force will be rebuild (which would be a good side-effect of all that because due to cost savings there were almost no more police forces left in Germany - they even had to buy their safety jackets on their own, private budget! ...) and that these right-wing idiots get back into the woodwork where they came from.

Heavy I know, just curious since your right there in the middle of France and Belgium (close enough) where all the shenanigans has occurred recently, god rest their souls. Yes I understand about the whole aging population thing, think its a 1st world problem everywhere, people have too many gadgets to fill their time and not making any babies. I know most of these people just want a better life but unfortunately a small percentage over recent times are turning Europe's good will into fear and mistrust. I can also understand why may people there may be against all the forigners as it will be seen as they are taking all the jobs at the expense of the people.....is an age old issue. Unfortunately no real answer, if Germany isnt careful you will ruin your own economy trying to help everyone. Like with all those Geek bailouts, dont think they will ever learn and manage themselves, there comes a point people need to stand on their own feet and take care of themselves. Cant rely on generosity of others forever. all these issues just enable a platform for those rightwing radicals to bleed their rhetoric.

On a lighter note, off to bed for some well earned sleep. Night all!

Oh man, it's Monday morning. That there on the far right looks like a latte, I'll take that.

My bosses were out of the office on Friday (and the office is just me and the two owners everyday now), so this morning is catch up from the weekend and catch them up. I'd much rather have a quiet morning.

Also, because of his stupid internet, we didn't get Baior's Science Sunday stream yesterday, so I'm going through both Baior withdrawal and Science withdrawal. Luckily, he said he's going to do some science stuff this morning, so I'll be able to get my Baior and Science fix today instead. Hopefully I don't get too many interruptions of work while I'm watching. (Multitasking FTW!) ( https://www.twitch.tv/baiorofred if anyone's interested. He'll be on in 45 minutes, which is 10-1 here EDT.)

Here you are, extra strong latte... ... well, this here I meant:

...with a nice sweet Brownie for the mood :)

How was your weekend?
Ooh, brownie!!

Yeah, it's still pretty early here when you get off work, so I tend to lurk around here a lot. I'm still reading everything in the coffee bar though!

It was a good but busy weekend. Needed to clone myself Friday night to be at dance class, a graduation party, and have a dram of scotch with my best friend all at the same time, but I got it all done. Had an unexpected trip to the lake to hang out with friends on Saturday and see their new baby, then spent Sunday cleaning and errands to prepare for my mom and sister's visit tomorrow. How about yours?

Well, WAY too much food - but sunny days are "sinny" days, aren't they? ;) But nevertheless: bank holidays, four(!) days off - it was wonderful. But being with family, house and dog our actions mostly concentrate on exactly those three "central stars". Dance class, graduation party *sigh* Thats a long time ago for me. Sounds like reallllly fun :) Looking onto the last couple o' days, I don't know exactly on which day we've done what, but we made tours on rollerblades (first time for our 9year old boy, but he did quite good!), ate icecream (weighted in kg, I guess :D), started the sprinkler, barbecue'd with some good friends and made a lot of work in the garden. "Work" sounds awful, but it is 100% pure relaxation program for me/us. Our son helped and earned some bucks for that, my eldest daughter (from 1st marriage) was somewhere around, drinking, chilling - what 18year olds doing for (no) living  Hopefully that she finds an apprenticeship place soon o_O Anyway, soon she's outta here and has to struggle for understanding that "chilling" is no good basis for a future-oriented life. Whats the saying? "Small kids, small problems - large kids, large problems". This is so 100% bulls eye, I can tell...:D

need an update from the Canadians!
Fort MacMurray remains under mandatory evacuation for now. The fire has spread to 161000 hectares (1610 km2), but is moving east towards Saskatchewan. Temperatures have dropped, and humidity has risen, as well winds are not as high as predicted. All factors have helped with the situation.

The premier of Alberta will be touring the city today with the fire chief and some of the press, to take in the scope of the devastation. Expect some pretty disturbing images to start emerging today as those photos are released.
