They thought spending thousands was a way to pay to win,
People that imply that buying hundreds of ships in Star Citizen makes it a "pay to win" game, don't understand the scope of this game. This limited opinion comes from people who share one single planet with 8 billion people in real life... not 5 million SC account holders in a galaxy with more than 100 star systems. I remember a video with CR saying something to the effect of " If all 2.5 million account holders of star citizen took their eight kilometre land claim beacons and put them all side by side, it would only cover one tenth of one of our moons" I can't remember which moon he was referring to.
Spending $950 on a Polaris means I now have to find 12 people to crew it for some shared victories/loses... Unless another person has a Polaris and, between the two of us, we paid $1900 for 24 people to win/lose. I can only command one capitol ship at a time. I can't win anything with a fleet of Bengal carriers by myself. If there is to be a decidedly "unbalanced" win condition, it would be having an Org with 20 000 members... if we can get them all to play. XD
it seems to me we are a very long way from those kinds of issues.
Games with vibrant economies always parallel the real world. Games that don't, end up with some weird barter system economy that real economists will not play. Sure, the mechanics of an economy are nowhere near being set. But a bunch of like minded people sitting down and discussing how we're going to get along with each other Is a very different activity than learning how to fly a ship that has its physics changed on a yearly basis. I'm about to cross into the category of "old". My muscle memory is not as adaptable as it used to be. XD
Having said that, you are right. Now that CIG has turned its focus to fixing bugs in the game, as opposed to dumping new stuff on us, I do agree that it's time I started to play on a regular basis. The ships I really want to play aren't in the game yet. But being is a big part of my empire depends on Arrastras, I could always get out there with my Prospector and get a feel for it.
