If the Lancer had the rotating guns from the first ad, how would the pilot control them? He can’t hit what he can’t see.
But yeah, I can’t guess why they dropped the VTOL. Heck, I can’t see why they gave it four beds. Maybe just a case of inexperience?

I've been wondering if they could be pilot controlled limited motion frontal unless you have remote gunners in the seats, then they are turrets with full range of motion?
Wouldn't that make the 'lancer just the most fun little gunship, 3x turrets and the pilot concentrating on missile deployment, especially for the MIS...?
It would explain the need for a crew of four and give the freelancer a near unique multicrew proposition for a ship it's size.
Starfarer would become a lot meaner too if those pilot controlled cheek guns got the same treatment.
