"The Paradise War" by Stephen R. Lawhead.
First book in a trilogy. Based off a Celtic mythology. I've probably read the trilogy 4 times. would read again.

Ok, the synopsis sounds pretty bad ass. I will give you that.

I'm going to nominate Neal Stephenson's Anathem again. Its starts off in what is essentially a sort of monastery for intellectuals who have spent the last few thousand years studying math, philosophy etc., I thought it was an interesting read.

Looks like we have some avid Neal Stephenson fans in TEST. lol that is 3 different books from the same author nominated for the same month. What a kawinky-dink!
