So, I've been thinking a lot about how TEST will end up dealing with its member logistics. One of the key elements is player density and distribution across the galaxy.

How do you think we'll end up being situated in the Star Citizen universe? Will we be setting up in one region/system, or multiple regions?

What are the circumstances that should dictate whether or not we set up a "home(s)" in those regions?

What will define our ability to function in Star Citizen as an organization?

If anyone else has other factor to suggest that I haven't thought off, post 'em here.

Also, discuss. :P

Well, I for one see a central base of operations for TEST. But you're going to have remote elements off doing stuff and things throughout the 'verse. Exploration here, pirating there, trading all over, salvage and mining. You'll have remote hubs for all these things.

Some people may even have a place to hang their hat. For me, I'll probably hang my hat at home base, or at whatever hub I happen to be working out of at any given time. In my mind, whats the point of hanging out alone at my own little nook. I mean, it IS a MMO.

I think that most of our central chain of command (Ministry Of Truth, Ministry of Love, You, etc.) will be on a fleet of capital ships travelling between systems (modules) which we control. This system will allow every TEST manager to feel equally loved and protected while still allowing us to have a central peacekeeping fleet for glorious propaganda.

That or we'll end up just a bunch of ragtag squads strewn throughout the world.

I except I'll be wherever the insurance is lowest for buying back the ships I've flown into various solar system suns.
I also plan to fly my ships into unexplored suns, far from civilization. I like the idea of raids into various territories for nefarious purposes, such as stealing all of their ships.

If you fly your ship into a sun and no one is there. Did you really fly your ship into the Sun?

I imagine that given that PCs aren't supposed to make up more than 10% of the population of a system at any given time (source unknown, just a number I remember hearing repeatedly) it'll be difficult to take over a system. That said, I'm certain there will be a variety of TEST headquarters around, probably with each HQ more relevant to what the TESTies in that area are doing. Out in Nyx, the pirates and bounty hunters and smugglers will have resources and facilities more tailored to their needs, while TEST HQ on Terra might cater more to bulk freight shippers, people-hauling, and other more civilized pursuits. In addition, there's enough interest that I fully expect to have roving TEST fleets to spread the word of Montoya to all, either over a beer or from behind a gunsight.

Speaking of TEST pirates on Nyx, what would we do if a members reputation started being counted against his org? Like if amazing TEST pirate #101 gets a massive bounty on his head which in turn brings TEST a negative rep to NPC's, will we cut out that amazing TEST pirate?

Say it ain't so!
and if it is SO...
Can't we have the organization separated into multiple factions/organizations that are allied?

you joined an org where asshattery is the norm, but you don't want the consequences to rub off on you?

get real

Asshattery being the norm does not mean that every member of the org has to carry a bad reputation with direct in game penalties because there are some members that don't care about their own reputations.

It's been said over and over that we just don't know how we're going to handle members that want to be pirates until we know what the in game mechanics will look like. When we know what being associated with pirates will cost, we can make informed decisions that are beneficial for the majority of our members.

Most people will not want to be pirates, or be associated with pirates if it means there are strong consequences that come with it.

With that said, let's try not to devolve this into yet another thread about how TEST will handle pirates. Please.

This thread is not about piracy in Test. Focus on the intended subject please.

That aside, I get the sense we'll need a set of criteria for determining when a region or solar system gets an official Test base.
Any ideas?

Criteria could include resources, proximity, and security level.

Resources of one type or another are what would lead us to consider a place for an HQ in the first place. If a location has nothing of interest, there's pretty much no reason to consider it for HQ. Note, for this purpose I consider strategic locations to be a type of resource, so an otherwise barren system that has a major shipping lane we want to protect/disrupt can be considered resource-rich.

Proximity is a broad heading which includes proximity of the system to civilized space, to target buyer, to a major shipping lane, to an interesting astronomical phenomenon, and anything else that would make a location attractive. If a barren area is close to a major shipping lane, but there's another location of similar distance with much better resources available, the second system would obviously be a better choice.

Security level is a consideration where different groups want different things. A bulk freight route wants nice, secure systems so they don't have to worry about having to hire escorts or upgrade ship defenses, while a raiding group will probably prefer lawless space so they don't have to worry about the police swarming them before they can make a clean getaway. In either case, it's an important consideration when choosing a base,

So.. let's take Terra xD

In all seriousness though, what aspect of the criteria do you think TEST should care the most about? I'm thinking because TEST is one of the larger organizations, we should focus on taking jump point hubs.
