Following on from the moderately successful The making of an LTI Perseus earlier this year, and with news that the Polaris will be flyable within the next 12 months, it's time to look into what can be saved on a Polaris through ships and CCU's available at IAE 2953.

This time, however, I will be limiting the construction to the following:
Start date November 11 (Nothing that was not available on or after then)
End Date November 30 (Nothing made available after that date)
Target ship is Polaris
Must have LTI on final ship
The final ship must be "giftable" (So no using potential "Referral gifts" from the event)
The final ship must be "meltable" (So no using potential "Referral gifts" from the event)
At the end of the event, all areas where possible future saving might be made will be highlighted, to allow further savings if waiting until closer to release to lock in chain.

Changing CCU options:

Pre event starting point:

LTI option:
Drake Cutter Scout (CIG announced via email that it would be on sale until November 30, suggesting possibility that no cheaper LTI option will be available)

CCU options:
A1 Spirit ($175, saving $25)
Acquiring a CCU to this ship from both the Sabre and Khartu-Al ($5 each) may be a worthwhile "investment".

CIG released an announcement of price increases on a number of ships. Of these, only 2 are available at the time of the announcement, 2 are flyable, but not available for purchase, and 2 are concepts and not available for purchase.

Of those available for purchase, CCU's can be aquired with store credit:
Constellation Taurus ($190, future saving $10)
Aquiring a CCU from the Sabre Comet ($5) is probably a worthwhile investment, particularly if using "credit" rather than new money.

Constellation Aquila ($310, future saving $5)
Aquiring a CCU from either the Starfarer or Eclipse ($10) may be worth doing if using credit, but this is speculative (so likely not not worth buying with new money), as the Redeemer ($325, rising to $330) will almost certainly be gaining a larger discount as part of the BIS day which will likely overlap/negate this CCU (The last Warbond CCU the Redeemer received was a $25 saving).

The following ships are set for release at IAE and will feature a price rise along with discount CCU options:
Day 3 - Storm (Currently $80)
Day 3 - Spirit C1 (Currently $110)
Day 6 - SRV (Currently $150)

The following BIS ships will likely feature a discount CCU option on day 10:
Vulture ($175, last discount dropped this to $160)
Corsair ($250, last discount dropped this to $230)
Redeemer ($325, rising to $330 on day 1, last discount dropped this to $300 but price increase may alter this)
600i Explorer ($475, last discount dropped this to $445)

If planning to continue adjusting the chains post IAE, the following ships are likely to be released in the next 12 months or so, and may have the potential to add more/better savings than CCU's used in the chains:
X1 Base ($40)
X1 Velocity ($45)
X1 Force ($50)
G12 ($60)
G12r ($60)
G12a ($65)
Legionaire ($120)
Zeus CL ($150)
Zeus ES ($150)
Zeus MR ($190)
San'tok.yāi ($220)
Apollo Triage ($250)
Apollo Medivac ($275)

Day 1:
LTI option:

Syulen ($65) - An alternative to the Drake Cutter Scout

CCU options:
San'Tok.yai ($205, saving $15):
Linking directly from the A1 Spirit (Previously acquired CCU) would appear to be a useful CCU
Linking from the Constellation Taurus ($15) may be worth considering (It has an imminent price increase which can be countered by having a CCU to it, and there is the possibility it may receive a WB CCU), but is a higher outlay with no guarantee that this will provide higher saving in the end (It saves less at the moment).

Day 2:
CCU options:

Sabre ($160, saving $10):
This fits well with the Spirit A1 - A CCU from the Prospector for $5 would fit with CCU's from past sales, while another from the Razor EX would also be worth picking up, in case it receives a discount later in IAE.

Day 3:
CCU options:

Mercury Star Runner ($240, saving $20):
This has the potential to continue the existing chain, should a Cutlass Steel WB CCU com in on Drake day (Day 5) or the end of event CCU's.

Spirit C1 ($110, saving $15) - Available until some time in December:
This is a good early CCU for the chain, in a price region which generally receives few CCU's. Acquiring one from each of M50 and Hawk is certainly recommended, but as the CCU will be available for the rest of the event, there is no rush to acquire it. Getting the CCU from the new Storm AA is also an option, but it is less likely that it may receive a WB CCU of its own, compared to the other 2 options.

Day 4:
CCU options:

400i ($230, saving $20):
This could make an alternative to the previous day's MSR CCU, depending on what else is offered during the event. Acquiring one from both the Defneder and Terrapin is worth getting as insurance.

Day 5:
CCU options:

Vulture ($150, saving $25):
While this doesn't fit into the active chain, acquiring a $5 CCU to it from the Razor should be considered, as this CCU offers higher than usual savings at this level, and depending on future CCU offerings, could be used to create an alternate past instead of going through the A1 Spirit (which offers equivalent savings).

Day 6:
CCU options:

MOLE ($295, saving $20):
This is a good higher-end CCU to acquire - The Redeemer will (almost certainly) be receiving a WB CCU on the 26th, but not knowing which ships are planned for other WB CCU's during the remainder of the event, having this CCU ($5) could lead to better overall savings.

SRV ($150, saving $15)- Available until some time in December:
This make a good substitute for the Sabre from day 2 of the event, covering the same price range, but with a larger discout. Use of this will require a $5 credit CCU to fill the gap from this to the A1 CCU, so the final chain would not be "optimal" in the long term, but is better for short term chains seeking the ship as cheap as possible during the event.

Day 7:
CCU options:

Carrack ($560, saving $40):
This is a good higher-end CCU to acquire - There are no non-concept ships being jumped over through using this CCU, and it is unlikely (but not impossible) that another CCU will start above this CCU with better savings that starts from the M2 Hercules.

Day 8:
CCU options:

Prospector ($145, saving $10):
This is a good CCU to fit with earlier CCU's (Day 2's Sabre CCU, in particular, which this allows to have returned to the chain). Acquiring a CCU to this from a Ballista is historically the better option of the 2 permanently available starting points, having had WB CCU's in the past - Should it return, this would link to the C1 Spirit CCU in the chain.

Day 9:
CCU options:

Constellation Taurus ($185, saving $15)
Aquiring a CCU from the Vulture ($10) would be useful for those who had acquired older CCU's to the Vulture along with CCU's from the Constellation Taurus. It could also be useful as insurance, should the San'Tok.yai CCU return during the final days of the event, replacing the Prospector-Sabre-A1 Spirit section of the chain ($15, saves $45) with Vulture-Constellation Taurus ($15, saves $40), that would allow it to link to the Razor, should a CCU to that ship become available.

Day 10 (BIS):
CCU options:

Vulture ($160, saving $15):
While this doesn't fit into the active chain, acquiring a $5 CCU to it from the Prospector should be considered, given it woulld make a good bridge between the recent Prospector WB CCU from Day 9's Constellation Taurus.

Corsair ($230, saving $20):
Unless you intend to apply these CCU's gradually, and would prefer this ship to the 400i, this can be passed on, as it duplicates the 400i CCU from earlier in the event (Day 4). Acquiring a $5 CCU from the Railen, however could be useful to link to the first day's WB CCU, in case a CCU is released tomorrow which matches the MSR's price and so is unable to be linked to it.

Redeemer ($310, saving $20):
Having this from either the Eclipse or Starfarer would make a good alternative to the MOLE CCU, as insurance in case a future CCU links to it.

600i Explorer ($445, saving $30):
A $5 CCU from the Prowler would be recommended, as it prvides good savings in a price range where there are few (if any) alternative potential savings.

Day 11 (Finale day 1):
CCU options:

350r ($115, saving $10):
While this doesn't fit into the active chain, acquiring a $5 CCU to it from one (or all) of the standard ships (Buccaneer, Centurion, Cutlass Black, F7C Hornet, Freelancer) as a precaution against what may release in the next 2 days is likely a worthwhile act.

Orion ($575, saving $75):
This is a very nice high-end CCU, as it provides a good discount, at a relatively low price and fits into the chain quite nicely.

Merchantman ($600, saving $50):
Given the Orion, which has the same base price, also has a WB CCU with better savings, this can probably be skipped.

Polaris ($700, saving $50):
Given that this is our intended destination, a CCU to it is likely to be of value. The cheapest option, while a concept, isn't destined for release before the Polaris, so this should be a safe purchase, particularly as th cheapest credit CCU to it comes from another ship with a WB CCU today (The Orion).

Day 12 (Finale day 2):
CCU options:

Scorpius ($220, saving $20):
While providding nice savings, this CCU is limited in that few ships priced above it would connect to this, compared to other CCU's already included in the chain or "insurance" pool. It may be worth considering as a speculative addition if continuing the chain, but overall is unlikely to be wanted.

Valkyrie ($350, saving $25):
This is a very nice high-end CCU, as it provides a good discount, at a relatively low price and fits into the chain quite nicely.

Day 13 (Finale day 3):
CCU options:

Prowler ($310, saving $30):
This CCU is an ideal link for the chain, fitting directly to the 600i Explorer CCU which is already included in the chain. The starting point is a personal choice - If you wish to apply the chain now, either the C2, or Reclaimer are valid choices. If you intend to hold the chain to allow future CCU's to be included for more savings, the C2 Hercules has had more discount CCU's in the past, with slightly better savings, but buying a CCU from each is probably worth consideing.

Hammerhead ($675, saving $50):
If the chain is not to be applied today, this could be considered a better CCU than the Polaris CCU that is available. While both CCU's provide the same savings, this CCU removes the dependency on one concept ship from the chain (Perseus). Having the required filler CCU (Orion - Perseus, or Hammerhead-Polaris) in buyback (or hangar) would be recommended, however, it is probable that the Polari's next price rise will be at release, for which warning would be provided, while the Perseus's release is still some way off, and so notification of price changes may be less likely.

Orion -> Hammerhead ($25, save $50) -> Polaris ($25)
OR
Orion -> Persues ($25) -> Polaris ($25, save $50)

Razor LX($140, saving $10):
While it's nice to ee a CCU on a low cost ship, this CCU is of minimal use in the "insurance" pool, as it substantially duplicates the Prospector CCU in the chain which direcly links to a set of connected links. Given the discount size in this region ($10), it would also likely remove the option to fill the gap bewteen the C1 and prospector CCU's which currently exists..

@Brictoria You are an Entrepreneur among men. I would have completely missed this announcement if you had not posted.
It's just a shame that certain ships in the announced price rises aren't available for sale between the announcement and the price rises...
It would have been nice to have the rises staggered (lowest priced ship to highest, with a moderate - say 1 day - gap between them), so that some could be chained: Vulture to Super Hornet, Super Hornet price rise, Super Hornet to Constellation Taurus, for example...

It's probably worth mentioning that if anyone has warbond CCU's starting from the following ships, they could become $0 CCU's or even "negative savings" (Constellation Taurus - F7C-M Super Hornet Heartseeker being the most likely one people could have):
F7C-M Super Hornet - Price increasing from $180 to $185
Constellation Taurus - Price increasing from $190 to $200
Constellation Aquila - Price increasing from $310 to $315
Redeemer - Price increasing from $325 to $330
Hull D - Price increasing from $450 to $550
Orion - Price increasing from $575 to $650

Edit: Given the BIS ships have traditionally received a discount CCU on BIS day, and that the Redeemer is one of the 4 ships involved in that day, It is possibly worth ignoring this change at the event, rather than trying to secure a CCU before the price rises... There is, of course, the possibility that CIG may decide not to offer discount CCU's as well, though.

Oh, it will fill out - I just wanted to add as much as I could now, to simplify things during the event, and not knowing what the discount CCU's for each day will be in advance (outside of BIS, for which the ships are known, but not the savings) it's not possible to provide much further detail at present.

Each day of the event starts at around 2AM here, so the less I need to be concerned with at that time, the happier I'll be, as I try to make the updates then to give potential readers as much time to think about the changes as possible.

I doubt this will continue through the event, but the first 2 day's CCU's fit perfectly with the A1 "release to flyable" WB CCU's, giving a solid foundation with 7% savings for the Polaris...
The WB CCU from A1 to San'tok Kai is down but hopefully will be back the last day or so. Aegis Day (today) provides up with a WB CCU for the Sabre, so a Prospector to Sabre costs $5 today. Making a Prospector to San'tok Yai chain $15 to bridge from $155-220. That's some sweet WB boostage.

Final result - $420 LTI Polaris (44% discount).
And, for the Industry focussed people among us, is allows you to jump off for:
$105 LTI Spirit C1 (16% discount)
$125 LTI Prospector (19% discount)
$130 LTI Vulture (25% discount - Uses the Prospector-BIS Vulture "insurance" CCU's.)
$195 LTI MOLE (38% discount)
$370 LTI Arrastra (35% discount)
$395 LTI Banu Merchantman (39% discount)
$370 LTI Orion (43% discount)

And for the upcoming 3.22 release:
$140 LTI San'Tok.Yai (36% discount)

Overall, this event was quite a good one regarding the WB CCU's on offer...

And, for a comparison to Invictus:
Invictus - $560 LTI Persus (17% discount)
IAE - $395 LTI Perseus (41% discount)

How do you get those discounts?
Not sure if you are being serious or not. Maybe it was a joke, but if not...

...By starting off with a small ship, usually a new ship or new variant on sale for the first time that comes with lifetime insurance (LTI). Then you apply a series of discounted 'warbond' upgrades successively to it and some non-discounted ones to join up separate parts of the chain, you can end up with a final ship that costs significantly less than buying that ship outright. Brictoria's original post in this thread is an illustration he (I think?) maintained during this year's IAE, using only discounted upgrades offered during this year's IAE.

He maintained this thread during IAE, as he has a few times during previous events, as a way of demonstrating how to do it for folks who aren't familiar with 'the CCU game'. If you want to know more and search for that phrase, you'll find a ton of posts/videos explaining it.

By buying warbond CCUs carefully, and keeping them over a longer period of time so that you accumulate a wider range of discounted warbond upgrade options, and can make chains with fewer gaps and more discounts between the starting ship and ending ship, getting a bigger cumulative discount on that final ship. Check out ccugame.app too - I think just about everybody using warbond upgrades uses it and it is really, really good.

Nope, I was serious. Probably ignorantly serious.
Use the CCU Game app during the sales (IAE, Invictus, Alien Week, etc.); it helps you plan things, but basically yeah you're trying to get whatever upgrades are on sale for the lowest amount of real cash, usually $5-10, and then after a while you can 'chain' these discounted upgrades together to make a small ship into a cheap big ship!

Nope, I was serious. Probably ignorantly serious. Anyways, I've heard people mention this before but didn't know what they were doing. I'll try to look into it further...thanks!
During every "sale" CIG do (whether for events such as IAE which just ended, new patches, or certain in-game events), CIG will offer 1 or more CCU's on sale, generally with a small "Special upgrade offer" tag above where the price is listed:
1701573957230.png

These discount upgrades (warbond CCU/WB CCU) can be purchased only with new money, from any ship with a lower price than the "discount" price CIG list. To purchase them, you need to select the "Warbond Edition" in the ship upgrade section:
1701574296939.png

To select the "source ship", it is advised to select the option to choose from "all ships", instead of the default "My ships", then sort by Highest price". This allows you to find the ships with the closest price to the discounted price for the ship you are buying an upgrade to, which gives more flexibility to add other CCU's to the chain, building up the savings:

It is also advised to avoid (where possible) ships which are still in "concept", as their price will rise when they release, lowering (or negating) the savings you are trying to gain.

Over time, you can build up a chain of CCU's which connect, and when you feel you have as many as you want/need, or sufficient savings for the final ship, they can be progressively applied to a ship in your hangar to gain you the final ship you wanted at an overall discount.

Just a reminder, the CCU game is great for upgrading 1 vehicle into a more expensive vehicle that you'll hopefully enjoy more for less money than you usually would've otherwise. The downside is that IF you eventually choose to melt that vehicle or pledge, you only receive store credits for the amount that you actually paid for the item, not the cost of the vehicle at that time. Fair warning.

Thanks all! I think I got the gist :)
It's a good question for you to ask. Lots of 'newer' folks joining the ranks, and even some long time backers who haven't been engaged with it. The CCU system as they've described it is fairly stable today, but it has evolved considerably over the years with lots of interaction between CIG and the backers. Allowing players to adjust their hangar composition was a wise choice on the part of the company; it's been a salty road getting it to the current state :)
