Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can remember the name of a game I used to play as a kid:

It was a combat flight sim which was set in the near future where oil had run out so the fighter jets had some kind of engine that got part of its energy from solar power so if you flew through clouds you'd loose thrust...

I thought it was called "UltraFighters" but search as I might i just can't find it. I also thought maybe it was called "E-Fighters" but no luck.

The one thing I do clearly remember is under the title of the game the tag line was "Sunny Side Up!"

Cheers!

...i've no idea, and google's not super helfpul
any more info on it? (console/pc, decade of release, anything else you can remember...)

EDIT: It's almost certainly not Strike Commander, but that one looks kinda fun. Also, you might have heard of the designer ;)
Also, you might want to check out r/tipofmyjoystick, which, despite the unfortunate name, seems to be the place to go for these kind of things.

It was definately PC, it was the 90's or very early 2000's, I seem to recall one of the planes was called a Hawk and that there was a mission where you had to defend or destroy a port and my PC at the time sucked so I didn't get to play all of it...?

You are very kind to have tried, I've come to the conclusion that current search-engine technology is far to overspecialised to show us whats going on now.

Even old stuff is presented through a filter of a youtube video made yesterday.

Any idea what year/s this took place?
Sadly not, all I remember is I had a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick between the years of 1997 and 2003 and used it for that game, so can't really narrow it down.

That sounds kind of like tom clancy's h.a.w.x, I think there were three of them.
Pretty sure it wasn't that, the planes themselves were painted bright red, red and white and I think yellow so about as far from military as it's possible to get, and there was that Solar Power mechanic that had you avoid cloud cover.
