I call this formation "Filmatic scatter". You might have seen it being used in such films as "Every sci-fi movie ever".

Note the total lack of positioning per role, small ships in the back with no line of sight to the front, larger non-combat vessels in the front... but it looks good! And it's easy to set up, just tell everyone to fill a gap that fits their ship, or crash trying.

I really think the pros outweight the slight con of not being effective in combat, I nominate this as our official formation.

It makes total sense. Let the enemy use up their ammo on the useless bulletsponge hulks then let our Mighy Auroras fall upon them unaccosted like steel hale stones.

what do you think of this one?

Each polaris has a either a connie or the other polaris off each of each axis. There is also two wings of vanguards and 4 flights of mixed sabres and hornets. In addition, Each polaris would carry a Gladiator.

While this is not a long range force, it should have a good defense against other similar fleets. If turrets ever get fixed, the Retaliator might also be a good substitute for the Connie as an escort. This would be especially true if you could replace the torpedo racks with lots of S3/S4 missile racks that turrets can use by independently locking on and firing on an attacking ship. Vanguards can be a mix of any type, depending on the mission. Sabres can be used as scouts as needed. For longer range needs, you could add in a StarG between the last polaris and the trailing connie, then drop the 8 flanking connies back half a ship. To add point defense, the Andromeda variant can be switched over to the Phoenix variant.

Hornets are in back to provide a rear guard, and since they can travel faster than the connies can, they can be deployed into the front of the formation with ease.

The only problem I have with this is the it will be hard for the rear Polaris to lock on and fire torpedoes on a ship directly in front of it. You might need a slight height variation, or it might be better to stack the polaris ships vertically or side-by-side, then arrange the escorts to match.

Let's see if I can link to it.

I just thought of another fleet formation. I think the Connie's didn't work as well as they could in the space provided. I've moved them to form an star formation with the center of the formation being the center of the star. I also put the Polaris ships in the side by side position for better targeting and torpedo usage. This formation should also extend point defense capabilities if you use the Phoenix variant

best formation will be

All the expendable and fast ships engage,

All the missile and shooty ships stay back a bit

Then cap ships

Oh and focus stuff down then move along the line

Someone promote me already
