I entered quantum from Baijini to Wala, was in quantum for about 5-6 seconds and my Guardian QI exploded but did not kill me.
Instead we dropped out of quantum and I was ejected from the burning ship and watched it tumbling away at rapid speed as I myself drifted in the middle of nowhere.
Ha! Fun times. I brought up the console and typed quit. I'll worry about it later. :wut:

So it seems a ship left docked when you log out for the night has a high priority of being destroyed. That the best place for persistent is in space/ landed or in your hangar.
At this point, we all know that SC has an issue with trolls & griefers, that the base of their existence is to ruin the experiences of as many others as possible. So of course they're going to target anything they can that can't fight back or defend itself, but the moment the same happens to them, they're instantly the victim of XYZ harassment. In all honesty, I hope that eventually, CIG will find ways to punish those players so harshly for their actions, that they will be forced to choose between changing their behavior, or quit playing Star Citizen forever.

While true it was my understanding that one's ships disappear after one logs out so wouldn't be targeted by players.
The very safest option, supposedly if all works as it should, is to cancel out of quantum in between two points and log there.

Logging while on a planets surface or in it's sphere of influence has always been a coin toss whether it works or not, I usually fly away as far as I have patience to.

I thought, but never tested myself, that the ships supposed to despawn after a couple of minutes (maybe even up to 20?) you log out.
What I'm seeing is every single poi is littered with perfectly functional, locked and owned, but clearly abandoned ships. It's been like this for the past... 2 years at least if not more. I'm fairly certain 99% of the owners already logged or crashed out of the game and will never get that ship back anyways.

This was my understanding as well, though the caveat would also including a player's personal / instanced hangar. My suggestion, would be to choose a place that you can refuel at, pick a spot to head towards in that locations general direction, stop at some point in between, then head towards the desired destination, stopping before you arrive while in the middle of nowhere. Thus being outside of all the major & secondary traffic lanes. Which would make somebody finding your ship randomly between the time of logging & the point where the ship despawns nearly impossible to locate.

Ever sense we received the hangars with the lift floors, unless I was just there to pick up or drop off a supply load, once landed & out of the ship, the 1st thing I'd do in store the ship ASAP, in order to minimize the amount of time it would be possible to be attacked.

I forgot about the personal hangar because I had multiple instances where random players popped into mine, and could kill me or take the ship... although most of the time they were just confused as to why they spawned in / got taken by the lift to a different persons hangar instead of their own.

I'm glad/lucky that this never happened to me.
I've never had a stranger pop into my personal hangar, though I've heard of it happening.

knock on wood...
