So much for spontaneous groups and fun if you have to plan ahead. That is broken gameplay. I have seen long travel times be shortened in a game so people can just play and have fun. Making people wait for travel is just wrong. Most people think it is a waste of their time.

Immersion is way overused by everyone in regards to Star Citizen. Game mechanics must be playable, and reasonable. Forget trying to have everything authentic. The game needs to be at a pace which keeps you engaged and thinking, not give you a reason to go watch a movie while traveling somewhere.

People need to be able to log in, group up within a reasonable time (20 minutes max). I can see the Agent Smithing working, but to prevent abuse there should be a set time to get there, maybe 10 minutes, and only if the ship is not in combat.

Personally I think that there will just have to be some way to take your ship across the universe to help escort a friend, or whatever the objective is. Look at every other game, they have some type of fast travel and SC needs it too. I do not like waiting, its boring, a waste of my time and life. Most people play games for the fun, challenge, and to hang out with friends. Think of your ship as a mount. It needs to go with you most of the time.

If SC is to have realism, then make my shields block ballistic rounds. They are slower and smaller than all the space debris the ship shields are blocking successfully! Interdiction is another unrealistic thing that should go away. Stopping a ship traveling at quantum speeds is not going to happen unless you are basically destroying it, and everything inside of it would be subject to the laws of inertia.

And while I am on this rant, I might as well throw my two bits in about forced pvp. Over 75% of online players do NOT want to pvp much, if at all. There needs to just be a on/off option for pvp. Have some timers to keep it from being abused, like 10 minutes to turn pvp on, and half an hour to turn it off. I have seen this work very well in other games. Personally, I am not interested in being someone else's target all the time. I like a challenge, but a fair one. Having several hours of my time being wasted by someone ganking me and blowing up my ship, or stealing it, or whatever, is not fun for everyone. This is a complicated game, and there will always be many ways to get around mechanics while pvping.

I can hear the pvpers now screaming to have forced pvp. If people can opt out of then, then they would have to fight each other and loose all their easy targets. Fighting someone who does not play that way is not a challenge.

I just don't see how these large ships will be able to have dozens of players on them at the same time. It is a nice dream, but the reality is that some of them will have lag issues, disconnect, have computer freeze, get wife agro to log off, etc.

Maybe I am wrong about some or all of this, but if Star Citizen is to be the Best Damn Space Sim Ever, then it needs to be enjoyable by a wide variety of players, who do not all play the same way. I talk about all of these things while I stream on Twitch, and most people agree with what I have said here. The only people who say it is wrong, are hard core pvpers who do not want to loose their easy targets.

What I suggest here will let everyone play how they want to. I see no reason to force pvp unless the goal of SC is to constantly piss off most of the players. It will get a bad reputation real fast if that happens.

No rant on. You are right there needs to be a way for players to quickly team up with each other. But the solution still needs to respect the vast size of the game so that exploring and making fleet plans has meaning. If i can take a ship and crew anywhere in the verse to bomb any target quickly then its nothing more then a fps like battlefield. If travel time of resources for trading or fleet prep for war has meaning in the great amount of time it takes then people will be more incline to put value on their spot and it creates opportunists for meaningful wars over contested ore or land or even a favorite station. While leaving other areas for other corps to claim as their own with out everyone jumping on them because its easy to move around.

I think any solution would allow player avatars to move quickly but not their resources. That way corp mates can join my mining op in the Orion and have a good time but their ships would still be back at their hanger or the last place they logged out. If they were going to be part of the security fleet detail then they would need to plan ahead and get their ships to the staging area before the op started.

Is it ironic that I celebrated National Beer Day with a bottle of Champagne?

If it does end up being teleporting into the NPC body and remote controlling that NPC, I think that will work as it is not going to be allowing you to work on improving your own character's stats, standing, experience or finances - so really you would only want to use that feature if you just want a quick bit of fun or a bit of pew pew with a distant friend. You wouldn't want to always play NPC remote control as you'll never get anything good for your character!

I tink it will work.
