I would not be surprised if this was just a Government stratagy to free up some of those pesky savings people seems to be building up these days. It's all about da money.

I have a question, if you go and get another job, will you leave it when the shutdown ends and go back to the govt job?

You have to get approval to work another job to avoid conflict of interests. If you dont report the additional job, even on furlough, the agency can terminate you. I've been through multiple furloughs and on this one I didn't get hit. I feel the pain for all other federal employees suffering with this. I hope it ends soon.
