Why do paints have to be locked to your home location?

I got out of the habit of bed logging from when it work in like 10 patches, is it reliable now...?
I keep forgetting it's in the game lol.
But when I remember to use it, it works pretty reliably. It even worked in places where it's not supposed to, although it wasn't a 100%, like logging out while the ship is landed on a moon. Half the time it spawned back perfectly fine, landed where I left it. But it will most likely get you spawned back at your last visited base or home location with the ship lost, so just fly outside atmo and it should work fine.

Also if you log out in your home location hangar, it will load You back in as you left it including your ship(s) you left landed TESTways on the pad. No idea how you'll get back into your upside down ship but it will be there as it was exactly. I'm guessing you get put back exactly where you were?, but I always log out in front of the main console anyways, which is the default spawn point for the hangar so I dunno for sure.

@BUTUZ As it was explained by Benoit, we loose all the consumable/small stuff like ammo and medpens because it's way too much stuff to track and transfer over, because of the very deep and complicated parent-child dependency system they base ownership of items on and blah blah blah... It made sense at the time,
I can't even begin to count how much money I lost on ammo not making it to the next patch. I buy gallant ammo in bulk, then I end up not using any lol.
As for the explanation, I don't buy it! The data is there, it is tracked and stored anyways. I don't see how having 674 random pieces of armor I collected over the years transfer over is less effort than the 40ish mags I got. It's just another line in a database... Unless ammo is tracked only by the client? That would be crazy though, too easy to exploit.
BTW I always get a single mag of shotgun ammo after the patch. It's for one of the gift shotguns, can't recall the name. I'm like yay, I can start out with it until I pick up something usable from a kill. We had that for years now. I never shot it, not even once lol
Still, it shows that we could actually have all our stuff transferred over. But whatever... I just hope they don't wipe ships and money for a while yet.

TLDR.: they don't transfer consumables/ammo over cos spaghetti code

Pretty much as Lorddarthvik said. You Bedlog on some random, unlaimed spot on some planet or moon and that's exactly where you log back in.
That's the only thing that worked as intended for me on a constant basis.
As for hangars, I do put my ship to bed before brushing my teeth so no problems with it sleeping on it's back.
😇

It would be if it were the same database.
I think it's highly unlikely that they put consumables and wearable items in the same database.
I believe they do kill both and reaply the last defragmented and newly indexed backup of your regular item database into a blank database.
And maybe checked that all acount bound items are applied. (Because god help the poor sods if someone misses his premium pants...)
That would make sense concerning database upgrade management and also why some stuff goes missing that you...errr.. rightfully aquired in the last play session before update...
