As I recall, Ciri was trained at the Witcher fort & at least according to the Netflix show, her blood lineage allowed the flowers needed for the potions bloom wherever her blood lands on soil. So for the time being, I'm guessing that is at least part of her becoming a Witcher, though I'm hoping that they'll include more of her journey of becoming a Witcher into the game to help make things more flushed out. I'm happy that it's Ciri instead of some unknown rando OP char, because at least her lore & background ties in well. Also, as far as the magic in the blood, remember that Geralt's mom was a witch, so that's probably part of how he's been so effective, survived the trials & has many of his abilities.

3 seasons of it on Netflix & Henry Cavill played as Geralt. Unfortunately, he quit during the 3rd season filming due to the writers, directors, ect trying to steer the show increasingly more woke while he kept fighting with them to keep the show as true to the books & games as possible. What would've been a season 4, was turned into a spin-off prequel from the looks of it.

Aaaaand it's dead.

Sorry for having to be a downer, I really don't wanna cos I loved Witcher 3 and played a ton of 2 as well, but:
Witcher 4 executive producer gives interview that "it's made for new players and a wider audience".... I can't be bothered to link the IGN article, you can find it if you wanna.

After what CDPR went through the last couple of years with the Cyberpunk launch, allegations, firings and doubling down on DEI, I was doubtful of their future but hopeful as well cos it still an "eastern european company" (which if you look at a map is more central than anything else but whatever), but this tells me they abandoned their real audience and will aim for something that I probably won't enjoy. Something more along the lines of the TV show rather than the books, probably lacking the depth and serious tone of the previous games.

TBH I never gave a single f about Ciri, I found her more of an annoyance than anything else in the 3rd game, but I'd be down to play as her. I don't care as long as the gameplay, world and quests are as great as they were in 3. Especially the DLCs, damn those were awesome!

There is always a tiny sliver of hope with CDPR that while they communicate stuff like "made for new audience" and such industry cliché nonsense speak, they won't actually act on it.
The way they brought back Cyperbunk with the DLC and now multiple patches that were promised would be the last again and again, I'm still hoping they might still come through on the Witcher as well. But my levels of pressing X on it are rising.

Also I'm afraid it will suffer from UEfiveitis. Wholly unoptimized, and Every fucking thing will look like every other game made in UE4 and 5 because they all use the same exact scanned assett library. Hell, I use that exact assett library for my UE work cos it's THE asset library, there isn't another one. Once you start working with that stuff you just can't unnotice it.

They just rewrote and upgraded their own engine for cyberpunk, wasting a ton of time and money, and now they have to scrap it and re-do everything in UE5, and learn to use that, which is wholly incapable of handling the one big open world out of the box along with the complex quest chains and such. If you wan't first hand proof, fire up Stalker2 (great game btw, when your progress isn't blocked by an unfixable bug like mine was), and see for yourself how much it struggles and how gutted it is compared to the old game. You do have a huge map, but it's soooo dead and empty and runs like utter crap without all the magic-scaling-thingies (DLSS, FSR frame gen, all of which degrades the look, adds noise and dithering to everything farther than 30 meters. It doesn't actually look that good, it just looks like a huge messy chunk of visual clutter)

For the next medieval style RPG I'll rather put my faith and time into KCD2. Until then I'll get through my backlog of 2024s surprisingly good games, starting with Indana and the big round shape which I'm enjoying a lot! It's one of the rarest of games, one where I don't have some YT vid or movie on my second monitor while I play it! It's really damn good vibes, and I recommend for anyone who loves the classic Indy movies, just don't pay the 70+euros for it. Play it on gamepass, way more worth it imo cos it's a story game, not much replayability in it.

This is disappointing news. I was hoping that they'd learned lessons from the downfalls of others that ignorantly discarded their main audience in order to chase those that previously had no interest in them.

I'd speculate that the initial flop and lawsuit from investors regarding the Cyberpunk release has a big hand in this.
I'd think the investors wanted assurances that the next game will bring in way more cash, and the only way they see that happening is with appealing to a wider audience, as in more buyers. We know this doesn't work but they are living in their own little bubble, and don't care about the realities outside of that. When they hear "wider audience" they equate it to "bigger number", and that is all that matters.
Since then 2077 made back way more than it initially lost, sales have been huge with the release of the DLC and ever since. Problem is, W4 has been in development since they released 2077 and so these recent good sales have no effect on it anymore, they are already committed.

So we had a video.
Everyone's going nuts one way or another.
Mission acomplished CDPR I assume.
Only no press is bad press. :o7:

Apart from that no pre-rendered Trailer ever thruthfully depicted the ensuing game.
Or lack of game.
Or Life service.
You know what I mean.

Besides if Ciri is the new Protagonist.
And with all the wild stuff she did in the Witcher 3.
You guys 't really think a female Witcher is gonna be the main offender?
Timewarping them myriad realities in search of the original Witcherryness, Baby!

Did you know that certain substances just became barely legal in Germany?
Means I'll start the trial of herbs myself before starting up that game.
ONCE it comes out.
But starting it up I will.

No, I have no issues with the main protagonist being Ciri. I'm glad that they chose her instead of choosing some random Mary Sue out of some demon's fart on a taco Tuesday. She's got different skills & abilities than Geralt, but at least she's already an established char that might still bring Geralt into the story. We only know what was in the trailer & I enjoyed the trailer. My concern is that I'm hoping that while shifting to her, they don't take the IP down the woke path & leave the wonderful IP as it is overall. Until we know more, it's up in the air from my POV.

Ciri is clearly using witcher signs and drinking witcher potions in the trailer, something that was established even in the games (let alone the books) she can't do. They tried to teach her signs but it never worked, and she would die from the potions cos she is a woman and she has her own She should have her own magic and her own way to fight, instead she is basically a replacement for Geralt.
We get the same gameplay with signs and witcher potions, while they threw the lore out the window. I don't expect them to stick to the previously established theme and vibe anymore than they did to the lore with the trailer.
It still can be a fun game in the end, if you ignore everything above..

Perhaps, Ciri actually CAN survive the potions that she drinks, because its base was her own magically infused blood? (Her blood was used in the creation of the rare flowers as well as in the potion itself.) Which was something that has never been done before to the best of my recollection?

Lore says no. Her blood grows the plants but she can't become a witcher or survive the potions. Don't know the exact details, but it has been clearly stated in the books at least, according to my friend who read them like 5 times over... He really likes the idea of playing as Ciri but he can't understand why they'd go this far off the lore with her when she has her own powers and story.

But they could still spin it in a fun and still world-building friendly way as you said, sure. I would be fine with that.

I think they will skip this explanation entirely, and just go with "oh but that ending from witcher 3 where she is implied to have become a witcher herself is the correct one and it means she is now a full-on Witcher with the potions and signs and all".
