Nvidia is fussy, you'll need the same GPU, manufacturer, and model.
Usually each manufacturer has at least 2, the 'base' that is as from Nvidia but with their brand cooler and another that has a custom circuit-board design.
Edit: it appears they have gone lax with the most recent Gen?

A PNY and EVGA (and insert brand here) will work no problem together. so long as its the same clock and memory it has no issues.

When you run SLI the cards will clock themselves to the primary cards values. So if you use a SSC in the first slot and a el-cheapo in the second slot, they will both match the super super clock'd one in the primary slot. Vice versa as well, so, you can keep them at the lower values too. Which is recommended actually, if you are continually under heavy load.

Russian, Thanks so much for putting up an offer like this for TESTies! (I had to get a replacement laptop in order to finish thesis since the old one had a bad hard drive fail. So that personally set the timeline back on me purchasing parts for desktop. :( )
