Budgeting is key for not just excess spending on toys but also for savings and every day living.
My "game" fund is my "hobby" fund. Wife hates my hobby fund but loves that it is self funded.
I was going to buy an RV or and/or Boat a couple years ago. Would have cost me at least $20K, but could easily have reached $120K if I got an average boat and and an average RV. I would have also ended up using them perhaps a few times a year at best.
Then, I decided to not purchase them but instead put some of my "Hobby Funds" towards Star Citizen. I would get much, much more fun and time out of Star Citizen than either a boat, or Recreational Vehicle. However, I did not tell my wife about my decision as I let her get comfortable with the idea of spending $100,000 on something like a RV and/or Boat.
I even took it a little too far and actually took her downt to the fucking RV Dealer and made her see just how much money these things can cost and what you get for this absorbent amount of money. I even had her checkout some of the $200K RV's they had. This was probably just cruel at that point but you know what, she fucks with me all the time and I owed her. Once she even signed me up for a kickball tournament.. A Christian Kickball Tournament. If you know me, you know I curse like a sailor and drink everywhere I go. So yeah, she had this coming.
Anyway, I finally ended up showing her Star Citizen. I also ended up going over the math of everything. I would get accounts for friends, family, people I barely knew, etc. I would also get every ship I could for myself and my mates. Still, we were looking at just a fraction of the expense of a damn Boat or RV. Then we "both decided" it probably was not best to get a damn Boat / RV.
So, this is when I got free license and reign to do whatever the hell I want with Star Citizen. I actually have probably ended up spending the same as I would on a Boat by now but I went overboard as I usually do. Also, I mostly spent my stuff on Hardware, and stuff so I can LAN party with my friends and family. Also, I am really into music and I bought some stuff to make Star Citizen music.
Also, thanks to
@KrillFiend for this entire thing, as it was mostly his idea and he helped a lot. You will always be my main dude B, and I owe you big time.
