Instead of making a large pledge today I bought a laptop to play SC..

Being deployed I can't spend my money on alcohol or strippers... way to rub it in ;) My wife said I spent to much on firearms while I was deployed; but this extra "spending" ability is attributed to my lack of cigarettes and having to buy a pack a day. The best thing about this purchase though for me is that it is all paid for with company supplied stock I received when I worked at BestBuy. Kinda like my last FU to them as I sell stock to buy a laptop from someone else ;)
Man, I feel for you brother I worked at a ton of Best Buy's when I was running some Brand Ambassador teams for Microsoft and Sony. That company is crazy to work for. I also did some marketing for them at an MLG event a while back, that was an epic failure not sure what they were thinking. No one of any intelligence is going to go to a BB to get a Gaming "anything" besides a console lol. We must have met 1-2% of our Goal, at best. Luckily I got paid upfront for the job as I was a sub-contractor. Your laptop is pretty bad ass. Also, thank you for your service sir. I really appreciate it. We owe you guys are freedom.

Don't thank us for our service.. I rather thank the people who support us serving. Couldn't do it without people who support the troops and obviously my wife and kids :)

I was a manager with them for over 10 years and now currently an active reservist. I got hit by their last cuts of jobs which was a GREAT thing for me because I was deploying anyway and was not planning on returning... so I took my severance and ran.

Their ideas of focusing on gaming was GREAT when it came out... but they never backed it up or their associates which sucked.

But on the subject of the laptop... it is a beast that hopefully I will get sooner than later. I just got off their "online" support to resolve this backorder thing and to bitch a little about this. First time I ordered through tigerdirect and quiet upset with them. They showed it "available" when I ordered and I received the backorder notification three days later. Heck if you goto their site and look up the G751JY it shows available but they informed me it doesn't arrive till the 8th. Newegg has it cheaper now... grrrrr!! Hopefully they will resolve it before I do my anti-tiger tirade! I will be a diva on this! :)

Yeah but you can't use your BB Stock to get it from Newegg or did you just ca$h the stock out you mean ? Plus, they are the WORST place to go to get a Laptop I can explain via PM if you would like. Especially Asus products because of the sheer amount of Asus RMA's that they process.

And yes sir, you must be very proud of your family. I know I would be.

Man, that worked out great for you. Really happy for you brother. I can only imagine what Managing for BB was like. Crazy for sure.

Again, though thank you from the bottom of my heart, you are an American Hero. Reservist or whatever it does not matter to me. We owe you are freedom.

Yeah I'm going to cash out once they hit their holiday high in a week or so (statistically speaking and not inside trade info... I'm hoping for $40 a share and I'm out like a light).... once my money is out of their company and my last remaining employees who are left there get new jobs they can start closing up shop for all I care....

No I'm not bitter... ;)

Okay okay.... so an update on this... headache.

First: I will NEVER order from TigerDirect EVER again. Long story short... their inventory they list online is not accurate and I received multiple backorder notifications after I ordered something that showed available from the time I ordered it. I have since cancelled the G751JT from Tiger and upgraded to the G751JY from Newegg. Newegg charges more for shipping to my APO address and does NOT offer a extended warranty (I love accidental coverage); but the overall price was over $200 cheaper (plus with eggpoints I saved over $400).

So now more money invested into gaming (don't tell the wife) and may see my laptop in 2-6 weeks (fucking APO shipping...). Now going to probably buy that little ugly spy recon ship to satisfy my immediate need to spend more money ;)

Hey, I allocate a set amount of dollars every month to gaming. I think a lot of people manage their hobbies/obsessions that way. I can't be the only one who realized that they like 'stuff' and 'stuff' costs money, can I?

Yeah, I do the same thing, but for entertainment in general. It helps me not spend all my money on all 5 seasons of star wars: the clone wars.

Budgeting is key for not just excess spending on toys but also for savings and every day living.

My "game" fund is my "hobby" fund. Wife hates my hobby fund but loves that it is self funded.

I was going to buy an RV or and/or Boat a couple years ago. Would have cost me at least $20K, but could easily have reached $120K if I got an average boat and and an average RV. I would have also ended up using them perhaps a few times a year at best.

Then, I decided to not purchase them but instead put some of my "Hobby Funds" towards Star Citizen. I would get much, much more fun and time out of Star Citizen than either a boat, or Recreational Vehicle. However, I did not tell my wife about my decision as I let her get comfortable with the idea of spending $100,000 on something like a RV and/or Boat.

I even took it a little too far and actually took her downt to the fucking RV Dealer and made her see just how much money these things can cost and what you get for this absorbent amount of money. I even had her checkout some of the $200K RV's they had. This was probably just cruel at that point but you know what, she fucks with me all the time and I owed her. Once she even signed me up for a kickball tournament.. A Christian Kickball Tournament. If you know me, you know I curse like a sailor and drink everywhere I go. So yeah, she had this coming.

Anyway, I finally ended up showing her Star Citizen. I also ended up going over the math of everything. I would get accounts for friends, family, people I barely knew, etc. I would also get every ship I could for myself and my mates. Still, we were looking at just a fraction of the expense of a damn Boat or RV. Then we "both decided" it probably was not best to get a damn Boat / RV.

So, this is when I got free license and reign to do whatever the hell I want with Star Citizen. I actually have probably ended up spending the same as I would on a Boat by now but I went overboard as I usually do. Also, I mostly spent my stuff on Hardware, and stuff so I can LAN party with my friends and family. Also, I am really into music and I bought some stuff to make Star Citizen music.

Also, thanks to @KrillFiend for this entire thing, as it was mostly his idea and he helped a lot. You will always be my main dude B, and I owe you big time.

Boat... in 15 years or so I plan to purchase a nice sized sail boat that can make deep blue travel. But in 15 years or so I plan to be retired and living off rum and fish in the sea on a daily basis. If that doesn't happen I will just hope for an apocalypse scenario ;) Didn't buy all that ammo for nothing...

Good news... the G751JY shipped! Woo-hoo! Also TigerDirect posted my refund too... but they refunded me all my software I purchased (mainly Office 365) which they also have shipped. Hmmmm. I wonder if they voided out the registration code for Office 365... if not I will take that as a prize in the battle of online shopping.

So let me review this amazing ASUS G751JY in all its glory....

WAIT... it has YET to arrive!!!!!! Yes... I shiot you not that this thing has yet to arrive. Friday will make it an entire month since it shipped from CA post office to my FPO deployment address.... and also begins week 6 since the original transaction which is also the time I will be either getting a refund or having them just ship it to my home state side. Thinking of the refund and putting all that money into a nice desktop build....

I hate the United States Postal Service.... its dumb.. we pay for it and we still have to pay to use it and it's dumb... dumb dumb dumb..

My sympathies mang. Hopefully it'll get to you soon so you can get to glorious gaming. If you decide to go with a desktop build, there are lots of folks here who are glad to give advice.

Mucho appreciated.... I am eventually going to a desktop build; but was planning on holding off till closer to SC release. So either way... I will be asking for assistance and advice when its time since the last time I did a computer build or even did anything dealing with hardware would of been 10 years ago ;)

Last time I owned a desktop was also 10 years ago... hmmmm. But we have enough laptops in my house hold for everyone including the kids and the dog......
