US Dollar is very low right now in my home country, so I decided to buy a medium freighter -- I've been flying Avenger for a while, but I knew I want a bigger ship from the very first moment in Universe.
Since I always do the opposite of what I'm told to do, I bought a Freelancer, instead of Cutlass ; ) First surprise: in addition to the shiny new freighter, I've got a Hornet medium fighter, for free. Although I checked several "Freelancer-vs-Cutlass" threads over the net before, nobody mentioned that the Hornet is bundled with most of the medium or large freighters, as a loaner for Arena Combat.
The Ship Loaner Matrix says:
---- does it mean that at some stage all these loaners are going to be removed from inventory completely? -- or, are they going to be removed from PU only? I guess the current version of the game doesn't distinguish loaners from owned ships, that's why I can use both ships in Universe, but this might change any time.
Anyway, I took a Hornet for a test flight to Levski; kicked some NPC ass on route, then landed safely next to the air locks. Called my new Freelancer and loaded it with some small amount of titanium. It would be too easy to go back home without any problems ---- I experienced a journey-to-the-center-of-Delamar bug -- my elevator never arrived, while the doors were opening, trying to force me to commit suicide (done this before; elevator was dark, I thought the lights are out; turned out there were no lights, nor even an elevator). Another player arrived -- in his case elevator wasn't even responding to the calls. Long story short, we have managed to get to our ships; it involved my Freelancer dropping the other guy from the ramp next to his ship in another hangar -- we thought I'm going to get my crime stats increased, but apparently you have to touch the landing pad in order to be fined -- I didn't ; )
I've been interdicted on my way back home, so I gave my new armed freighter a try ---- I've been told that it sucks in a dog fight. Well, I shot down an NPC Cutlass in only few minutes : ) Hit by 2/3 missiles and not too many rounds -- unfortunately I didn't check how many of them were used; BTW, I split the guns into two groups -- having all 4 of them firing at the same time is not a good idea in my opinion, unless you never miss.
To summarize, I'm extremely happy with my new Freelancer. It's beautiful -- I prefer MISC design over Drake's -- you can feel its weight, while it's not too slow (for me); you can even dogfight with it. The only thing I would like to have is an ability to use rear turret, even locked.

/.../ Due to the current restrictions in Arena Commander, certain ships have a secondary loaner to allow them to play in all game modes i.e. the Freelancer MAX gets a Freelancer for PU and a Hornet for AC.
