I have to say the newsletter was pretty interesting and it's great to see CIG focusing on multi-crew stations! But I'm super stoked about EWAR. I use to use ecms all the time playing EVE until they nerfed them. So I am especially eager to get back into the 'Crap, why aren't my systems working' game. ;)

EWAR
: The electronic warfare station gives you the ability to hinder an opponent’s systems, bringing a new tactical edge to dogfighting. Use of the EWAR suite requires the installation of a specialised electronic warfare module which generates the effect in a radius. You can also fit an emitter to target specific enemies. Electronic warfare breaks down into the following areas:

  • Dampening: Reduce the range of opponent systems
  • Disruption: Hinder the operation of opponent systems
  • Disable: Disable an enemy system, forcing them to restart it
  • Debuff: Make the opponent more vulnerable

I imagine it's the Herald's purpose in combined operations, wheras the rapid data relay function is its commercial purpose. For Herald owners, that means their ship is useful in a fight AND profitable on its own merits, a pure benefit IMO.

And of course, it will be used to hack the enemy's speaker system and blast "a pirates life for me" at max volume.

Makes me glad I kept the ugly duckling Herald, I would rather terrorize my foes with

Herald is one of my favorite ships because it actually looks like a spaceship and not an airplane in space. Sadly though when the Carrack came out I had to make some sacrifices and melted my Herald. It was a tough call but I think it was worth it - but the Herald will be the first ship I get when we can start earning ingame credits.

I actually hope the herald isn't used for EWAR. I think an entirely new ship specifically designed for EWAR is the way to go. And an EWAR ship could be really cool.
There's really no need for a whole new ship, the Herald could do this perfectly well. This doesn't need to become a game with a massive amount of redundant ships with few differences.

Redundant? You mean like the Dur now that there is the Carrack?
No, a couple of different options is fine for a thing like exploration, but I don't see a reason to make a whole other ship for a function like EWAR. There won't be a ton of variation in roles, so as long as a ship has strong signal sending capabilities and a good computer, it will function well for this. There isn't really much room to change that and have different ships focused on different aspects of EWAR, there will simply be different computers/equipment.

I'm looking forward to modifying my Constellation just for EWAR. It's no fun if you can't drive them batty before you blow them up.

Actually there are 3 exploration ships including the 315 and there are numerous fighters, bombers and shipping ships. In fact there will be numerous ships that support the same role more or less. Ship specific roles is the way to go; it also helps financially support the game - people simply don't want a single ship with mods that can do it all - so I have to respectfully disagree.
