Just getting back into SC

Hi guys. Like the thread says I'm just getting back into star citizen. I also just joined Test, had the invite sitting in my RSI account since 2014 apparently lol. This is my fleet atm:

315p - LTI
Hull-B - LTI
Constellation Aquila - LTI
F7C-M Super Hornet - LTI

I thought I'd get back into the swing of things by going into arena commander (back when I last played, the hanger module and some solo stuff in AC was all they had) and I realized that I am pretty much awful at combat apparently. I can get to wave 3 in Vanduul Swarm but only after using up all my respawns heh. So I'm thinking that I may focus on exploration and cargo hauling (probably in a convoy since the Hull-B is apparently going to not be very good at defending itself). That leaves the question of what to do with the Super Hornet. Any suggestions on fleet upgrades/changes? I'm not sure if I'm going to spend too much more money at the present time, or if I do, how much that is actually going to end up being. Thanks in advance for the suggestions folks

Welcome! It's an interesting question, I found I was wretched at combat in an Aurora LN, so got the Avanger. But i was bad at combat in the Avenger too, so got the Avenger Warlock. But I was still awful, so got the Hornet Ghost, but still stank so got the Saber and still wasn't any good... at this point I'd run out of fighters to try... I was just no good at combat.

So I re-jigged, i've a 325a for fisticuffs which while a fighter is more speed oriented so I should be able to run away more than having to engage in combat. The Saber was CCU'd to a Constellation which was then CCU'd to an Endeavor for science!

Now, while I was writing the above, my cat came and typed the following:

".............................................,mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmlk"

I take this to mean "Meow, while you may not get on with combat right now, purrrr, the mechanics have not yet been set in stone so you may still do okay in the long run. Remember S42 is coming before SC so you'll get plenty of practice in combat training in Squadron 42."

I'd keep the Super Hornet. It's great in a fight. I wouldn't change much in your fleet. Maybe consider a Cutlass if you want to spend more at any point, it packs a good defensive punch, and can haul a bit of cargo. Right now there is no real exploration, but I'm keeping my hopes up for some of that to start in 3.2. It'll be buggy at first to be sure.

Thanks guys. That's a fair point NaffNaff, I forgot about the fact that Squadron 42 could serve as a tutorial for combat in the PU. I knew when I bought the super hornet that I was only going to be doing combat as kind of a filler role, maybe I'll hold onto it for the time being. The Cutlass might be a good addition for when I want to haul cargo but be more survivable if I go it alone. The C2 Hercules would be very tempting if I currently had the money for it. Due to constant game freezes over the past week I've only managed to do one cargo run but I enjoyed it well enough. Which reminds me of another question. I currently have the Hull-B but in game I have a Freelancer. Am I right in thinking that the Freelancer is just there as a similar ship to give me an idea of what the Hull-B is like and not a bug?

The freelancer is a loaner ship you are given until they build the ship you have - So the freelancer is the stand in for your Hull-B, for my Endeavor I have has the Starfarer as a stand-in.

Every ship that does not have a currently flyable version has a loaner so you can keep playing

I'll pass your thanks on to Rosie cat, that was entirely down to her coming and sitting on the keyboard :)

Well to be honest unless your looking to spend cash, I wouldn't change your fleet it is a good balance of exploration/cargo/fighting.

315p - LTI - great starter ship for the PU do a bit of exploring some missions a bit of cargo. Go to ship.
Hull-B - LTI - once you get your hand in and have earned a good few K UEC - use the Hull B in "safe space" to add another 0 or maybe two 00 onto your bank balance.
Constellation Aquila - LTI - Now you got some moneys - you can start having fun with the bigger ships. Go out, explore, have fun do missions blow up enemies carry some cargo. All doable with the Connie.
F7C-M Super Hornet - LTI - Practice makes perfect, no one is awesome the first time they play - there's lots to learn. Don't give up. Maybe look at your controls as for fighting I have two cheap joysticks to give lots of control and it works nice. Also join us on discord and have fun together we often do ad hoc training if you come in and say help me with dogfighting we'll go into arena commander and show you the ropes.

I just came back after a long hiatus - have not played barely since 2.4. Popped into discord and met up with a few of the guys and they were like we're doing 1v1 and 2v2 against each other. Hey hang on BUTUZ You're not bringing your freelancer into PVP dogfighting training are you?

Hell yea, who needs an expensive fighter :D and I blew them up a few times too :D (unsure whether they let me....a bit.... or not...) :D

The Freelancer has damn good shields and 4 good guns. You have to stay at the good side of the guns and keep hammering the schields.

It's terrible hard to decide what ships to buy when we don't have reliable stats on them, and I am not one to recommend buyin' stuff that is not yet flyable. That said, if you know you won't be dogfighting, and you expect to be hauling cargo and exploring, and don't want to wait for the hull series, you might consider waiting for the Carrack release. For the price of your ships you could own that beautiful bird and it would likely do all you want.

I think there is great value in owning fewer ships than most want. Remember, every time a ship dies, you lose all the cost of the special components aboard. The game was designed from day one to encourage customization of ships, and all the custom mods will cost game cash. Even if you have LTI, every set of ballistics on a big bird will go bye-bye each time a griefer shoots it up, so owning fewer birds makes good sense, especially if you have a set gaming budget.

And really that Carrack is desperately PRETTY!
