I was honestly not sure if I really needed an 890J...

I agree with Wolfy here. It is not supposed to be very offensive at all. An Idris or Polaris is more what you are looking for.
Honestly it sounds like he needs a Polaris. They are at the same relative pricepoint, the Polaris has good weapons, it has a private officers quarters and it has a hangar. Plus a pool table and rec deck.

CIG has stated in multiple shows that the 890J will be defensively powerful, not offensively. The reason for this is to help protect the high value passengers from pirates. Which is why they will usually have fighter escorts protecting them as well.

It's actually been specified it won't need an escort. The difference is it cannot stand up to something like another similarly sized capital. It's instead designed to engage things like a caterpillar and a few cutlasses, the average pirate fleet.

Or the Hammerhead. Depends what you want to attack. I am pretty surprised at the power of the HH's guns and shields. It's going to be a fun attack ship. Still think it is an asinine layout, and I cannot see how the stories could be true that all the guns can focus on a single target, but it has guns galore.

I stand corrected, but it would still not be a surprise to me if there wasn't some sort of protection accompanying it. Perhaps a small number of Phoenix ships to allow upper middle class patrons to feel like they're better off by being in a luxury convoy.

I actually doubt a single HH will be an issue for an 890 as it the PDW systems will protect from the torpedoes and the capital shields can likely manage a large amount of fire hitting them. That said, the 890 should not linger around to fight it and should instead leverage it's better jump drive and engiens to get away.

Yeah. Depends on what the 890 can do. Right now it is not classed for passenger transport and they have never said VIP transport will be a career option. I'm still waiting to see how they end up doing it.

YES I LOVE THE JAVELIN. It is supposed to be very modular so you can make it what you want/need. It is just going to be a bitch to fix up since it is stripped down. Plus crewing it, plus fuel and ammo, plus pay....
That's why I intend to settle for the Polaris. If you don't plan to use the turrets except for self defense, you could maybe get by with just 5 players and 20 NPCs. The players would be busy, but that's fun.

I guess we all have our views of pretty. Personally I think that the Idris, Polaris, and Javelin are are beautiful. and the Carrack is gorgeous!
No they are very cool looking ships, I was being silly. I just love the looks of the Origin ships. I could honestly do without a lot of the luxury features on my 600i for example and happily double its functionality. My astetic preference is the clean and finished "Star Trek" esque look on a ship vs. the purely utilitarian look if that makes sense. :)

If they asked me, and they haven't, I'd take the 600i design, ditch the front master and move scanning operations there, loose the lounge and bar in the back and use the space as both cargo or a small area to dock say an M50 or if possible a 300 series fighter. Take the center room and put a small captain cabin there along with a smaller social area. Add a few more turrets and turret stations, in the wasted space on the bridge, but wrap it all in Origin's beautiful design and luxury materials.
