Honestly personal ships you can name them whatever you want but for the persistent ships, I rather they be based on how silly we are. Most people see Test as a laid back, funny Org, to give it a name based on some random god would look weird on us and i mean in the bad way weird.

Douglas Adams said:
But while these spaceships, and other great ones that come to mind, such as the Galactic Fleet Battleships -- the GSS Daring, the GSS Audacity, and the GSS Suicidal Insanity -- are all spoken of with awe, pride, enthusiasm, affection, admiration, regret, jealousy, resentment, in fact most of the better known emotions, the one that regularly commands the most actual astonishment is Krikkit One.
Test One.

I don't want the names to be so silly that it could break the feel of Star Citizen in general. :| And I don't think it'd be a bad thing for us to actually come up with GOOD names that aren't ridiculously whimsical to the point where we look worse than a laid back org.

This kind of requires a balanced approach.

Simple, we get whatever name the majority wants but act like we mean business as we should
Never judge a book by its cover, anyone?

I'd rather go by the suggestion I made earlier: Let the first dedicated ship crew be the ones to decide on the ship name, so they can take pride in that, and have some sense of attachment to the ship.

I like this idea for any org ships we have, but what about ships owned by other players? I think that the owner of the ship should have the final say.

yeah if i ever get an cap ship im gona name it myself cus the hell im gonna let anybody else name my stuff XD

im down with your idea with the first dedicated ship crew deciding together but shouldn't the first captain of the ship have a bigger role to play in the namegiving?
and the finder of a derelict ship (even if hes not gona be part of the first crew or any following) should also have a word to say.

Have to remember that the rules I proposed are for derelict warships that have been recovered and turned over to TEST Squadron's management. Persistent warships will quickly fall into this category (seriously, a single man can't rebuild a derelict cruiser by himself). There will probably be non-persistent derelicts like corvettes, frigates, and destroyers, but it will be up to the discoverer if he wants to keep the ship - if he wants to keep it, he has to 100% fund its recovery, or form a group of partners to recover it. That is to say, you can't come running to TEST Squadron leadership petitioning for funding and ship parts if you expect to keep the ship to yourself.

Like I said, personal ships are personal. Personal ships are the owner's to do with as they like. You guys sure like to read too deeply into things.

Relax, we're just curious. Clarifying doesn't mean we're reading too deeply into things.

I vote for SpaceDong

Or perhaps something that shows our enemies our clarity of vision for the future, such as #TYRION KILLS TYWIN

I can just imagine the mix of "super srs" names and joke names working out well in the PU.
Imagine this:

0400 HOURS. [REDACTED] SYSTEM, 3/7/3054
Lt Commander Ericsson: All right men, we all know the drill by now, just a simple pre-flight review. Alpha wing, callsign "Skybreaker" will consist of Hammer of Dawn, Obstinate, Righteous Fury, and Sol Invictius escorting boarding crafts Hummingbird and Old Hickory.

Bravo wing, callsign "Windrunner" will be on primary interdiction and interception duties. Red Raven, Bhaalgorn, Judgement, Bittersteel, Hammerhead, thats you.

Finally, Charlie wing, callsign "Dustbringer" will be support. (Sighs) That's the Corvette Kawaii Katana with escorts Jimmy Rustles, Nervous Nekomimi, Unsinkable 2: Sink Harder and Beer Pong Should Be An Official Sport in the Olympics. (Muttering) Fuck I hate these guys.

Over and out.
