Ok, so, can it sweep, too, or are we going to need to buy the Drake Minesweeper as well?

Agreed. Stupid nickel and dime crap like this is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Oh, i'm not salty, I expect we'll see more in a day or two. Just surprised, LOL. Guess SC funding is going well enough.

Can anyone with Wing Commander or Legatus Navium see it, or is all concierge locked out? I'd think they'd at least let concierge SEE what the thing is even if it's not available to them for sale.

A mine layer/mine sweeper?

Seriously? What's next, carpet bombing space?
If you ever played Freelancer there was a minefield around the penetentury. Also the mines in the image apper to have some kind of maneuvering thrust rig in the middle. Self guided mines, like Magnetic mines in the sea. Theroycraft, ofcourse, but an autonimous self guided bomb would not be outside the realm of possibility.

Never played it. Like "interdiction" it doesn't make much sense for "hard sci-fi."

There was interdiction in Freelancer too, but they used Trade Lanes that you had to stick to to get anywhere fast. Technically speaking Interdiction should be able to work if you put your trap on a popular traffic lane, for instance between Loreville and ArcCorp. Going from one rest stop to another should never result in an interdiction as it's such a rare route for anyone to use and would be a waste of time to camp... unless they have been tipped off and know you are coming ;-)

Space is vast. Everything is moving. At interplanetary, much less interstellar distances, travel lanes are impossibly large.

While you might be able to mine minute areas to protect a specific target, a dedicated ship for that seems rather wasteful.
