Slightly off topic but I’ve always been curious how the Polaris is Capital vs the reclaimer with the same length, larger in height and width is only a large ship...?

Components. Capital sized torpedoes. I think it may have a capital powerplant too...don't remember off the top of my head.

And I'm betting the Polaris will end up at ~175-200m.

By definition, capital ships are always and only warships. The Reclaimer is not a warship. Another part of the definition is that the main target of a cap ship is one of its own class, and since Corvettes usually attack larger vessels they are most often not considered cap ships.

The Polaris includes cap ship components, but this is just a size and has nothing to do with what makes a cap ship. The Carrack will have cap ships scan as well, but it cannot be a real cap ship as its purpose is not war.

In the UEE, real cap ships start with the Idris.

IRL capital ships are military ships, but in CIG game capital ships are... whatever CIG pleases!

I wonder how this "limited quantity" works when every ship will be purchasable in-game? Has there been any word on that? Is it just that they cost 20 billion UEC and good luck grinding that, or do you have to wait in 3 month Queue at some shipyard for your polaris to get ready?

A great question.

It's much more powerful than that. The Polaris has cap ship radar, while the Tally is medium. Since Torps have greater range than guns, this makes an enormous difference in the way the ships can be used. Add to this that the Polaris can support spotting ships like the Ghost Hornet, Tracker, Space Turtle and Eclipse, and you start to see it is an astonishing war machine. Unless you have a way to thwart S10 torps suddenly appearing on your radar, they are much to be feared. I expect they'll be expensive, so the smaller ships may have less reason to fear than the juicier targets. IIRC, I saw some Connies go down with just a single S9 torp from the Eclipse.
Odds are if you ever see that, your time to leave is over, and it's time to respawn.
On the flip side the 5 Retaliators can give you a 30 torp time on target strike, where the Polaris is limited to 4 tubes and 4 at a time.

Primary target for Size 9 and 10 torps is probably, by design, fleet trains. (Hull D-E, Star Farers, Hercules, Orions, Reclaimers, and similar) plus typical escorts, a Hammerhead or 2, maybe a Polaris, as flagship.

Given that torps currently act very much like missiles it would not be unreasonable to expect the larger torpedos to have a hard time tracking smaller ships and be easily outmaneuvered. Making them very much only useful against the larger ships. Also hopefully there will be the ability for interceptor ships to target and blow up the large torpedos in flight.

So I read somewhere a while back that they wanted to "Standardize the Polaris' Hangar to Port Olisar's Small pad dimensions". Now If they did... Volumetrically that would be a considerable Size increase. Currently the Polaris' last known length was 155m. Even though they planned out the Polaris' interior at concept properly.. I bet we are seeing a size increase. I wonder if it now being limited has anything to do with that information.

Looking at the concept pictures of Polaris, Port Olisar's small pad dimensions might actually reduce the size of the hangar. As you can see from the picture with the gladius, a small ship would have ample room around it, and the hangar would be around 30-40 meters long and perhaps 25-30 meters wide, and at least 10 meters deep. With those dimensions, even medium ships, like Cutlass, would fit in it. Snugly, perhaps, but fit nevertheless.

idk, it's a capital ship with a hefty price tag, corvette or not I'd kinda wish it could carry at least one medium ship or couple of small ones, perhaps 4 snubs.

In addition to this, game can be reseted even post gold release due critical upgrade, server migration,... and you will lose all your in-game stuff. But they stated clear and sound that stuff pledged with real money will never be deleted.

Worse than grindinig 20 billion UEC, it's to spend a lot of time earning UECs for nothing.

No, post release the game will not reset. Server migration doesn't cause any sort of need for resets, neither does any sort of update, critical or otherwise.
The worst that could happen is Derek Smart invades the offices and completely destroys the primary server. You might lose several minutes/hours of progression that wasn't backed up yet.

Now when you say limited its just limited pre launch right? There is no limit to how many can be purchased in game once it goes live correct? I cant remember lol.
