@Radegast74 Please stop with the politics because "I" do not want to get in trouble. I'm on beer one.
I'm just stating facts! People in leadership positions were saying one thing one day, and then the total opposite the next day...and then not taking any responsibility! The people deserve the truth, in MY opinion...

What did they know, and when did they know it?

You're posting political opinion pieces which use unnecessarily inflated language to frame a narrative. While the facts might not be disputed the presentation of these facts through opinion pieces adds strong political bias. Its obviously upsetting people and creating a meaningless discussion. Please stop.

I respectfully disagree. The posts I cite are relevant and factual. To be clear, the post in your reply originates from the story at ProPublica, which cites Senate Documents that *anybody* can access and download. I'll show you below:
This article:

Links to the Senate website which publishes the disclosures, which if you agree to the terms....

...links to the financial disclosures, just put in the guy's name and the check all the boxes and fill in the dates...

People should exercise their democratic rights more often!

I'm not disputing the facts and I agree fuck that guy. There's other places to discuss the fuck ups of politicians though and I'd rather keep these discussions to a minimum, otherwise I could write pages on this stuff that some would agree with and some would disagree with and I know it would end up pissing at least someone off, ultimately accomplishing nothing. Like with China, you see how there's a huge disagreement over that with me and I was wrong to have said anything in the first place. I'm one of the people who think the president isn't handling this absolutely poorly, and I know someone reading this is already wanting to argue that very statement. Its a discussion to be had elsewhere.

So no the president isn't handling it poorly, but that's not to say he's handling it really well either. His reactions, his statements have been about par for the course.
And, you can't do that fairly... you chastised someone for what you perceived as a political statement, then made a political statement of your own. Well done. lol.

You misunderstood what I was trying to say then, because I made the statement as an example and you did exactly what I said someone would do, hence why I said we shouldn't talk about it. Thanks for the condescension.

Just saw this on the WHO website:
The number of confirmed cases worldwide has exceeded 200 000. It took over three months to reach the first 100 00 confirmed cases, and only 12 days to reach the next 100,000.

This is why this had to be taken as seriously as possible, as early as possible.
Just to add to that.

No update on latest UK figures as yet (5.21pm GMT) official numbers are same as yesterday:

"Number of cases
As of 9am on 19 March 2020, 64,621 people have been tested in the UK, of which 61,352 were confirmed negative and 3,269 were confirmed positive. As of 1pm 144 patients in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died."
EDIT - As pointed out by Vavric (many thanks!) numbers now updated:
Number of cases
As of 9am on 20 March 2020, 66,976 people have been tested in the UK, of which 62,993 were confirmed negative and 3,983 were confirmed positive. As of 1pm, 177 patients in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.
Government announces all bars, pubs and restaurants to close following their criticism of the population, for everyone failing to not go to them like they asked everyone to do yesterday. The closure is going to be on a monthly review process.

65,000 retired doctors and nurses contacted and asked to come back into service, and tens of thousands of student medical staff moved into service early.

EDIT - Just announced the government will help businesses pay wages while staff employed but not working 80% of the wage up to £2,500 a month.

From 2016

OVERHAUL OR DISMANTLE?
WHO is physically present in 147 countries with six regional offices. This global infrastructure accounts for 70% of the organization’s budget. Eliminating the regional offices could save significant resources without sacrificing efficiency.

The Framework Convention on Tobacco Control was a major contribution of WHO—although its full implementation remains in question. WHO should use its unique legal powers to push similar global treaties to focus on the right to health, inter- and intracountry inequities, and health promotion, such as the proposed Framework Convention on Global Health5 and the Framework Convention on Alcohol Control.

In conclusion, the world needs a strong global health agency, but WHO, in its current state, seems unable to cope with the dynamics of the rapidly changing global health landscape. We repeat what Ford and Piedagnel said back in 2003,

In the face of rising infectious diseases . . . the importance of an international, independent organization that is brave, aggressive, and vocal in its defense of global public health has never been more important.6(p3)

I just noticed, the website has been updated for today shortly after your post. There seems to be a reporting to web delay, but it's certainly not as long as it could be. Honestly, that's not too bad. The real question is what is the delta between reported and actual cases, but at some point that is going to become meaningless noise.

Many thanks! Post edited - Government also steps in to pay 80% of wages up to £2,500 a month for non-active workers if employers guarentee they won't lay off any dudes. Business closures now make sense and an unprecedented move.
