There have been 11 newly confirmed cases since 3:00pm Sunday

Things continue to be not-shit.

An opinion piece by our deputy chief medical officer

The good news is if we act sensibly, and don’t fall into the trap of thinking we can immediately return to life as it was pre-COVID-19, we have reason to be confident we can avoid a resurgence. But everyone has a role to play in this.

Why else would they wear masks. Social distancing.

View attachment 15991
They've been wearing masks for months, this isn't out the ordinary. Doesn't matter if you're pro-Beijing, pro-HK, pro-Taiwan or whatever, everybody's wearing masks in that entire region.

This has nothing to do with Covid19 and everything to do with the unrest that's been going on in HK since last year. The catalyst being the controversial extradition law that the HK legislature was trying to pass. That said this law wasn't the primary cause. I'll say the unrest has more to do with the perception by many HKers that they're culturally and economically being subjugated by Beijing. The condition of HK's return to China is that HK is to be a 'Special Autonomous Region' with Judicial, Legislative, and Economic independence. At least for 50 years. Beijing has since gone back on their word (at least under Xi Jinping) and 'accelerated' the integration.

Anyway...Yeah I agree that this isn't really relevant to the topic at hand.

Source: My family and friends there.

Disclaimer: I am pro-Taiwan and pro-HK.

He's not wrong. That's what we have in Canada at the moment. $2k every month for people who for some reason don't qualify for normal employment insurance. The whole goal is to put money into working and middle class people who would actually spend that money (because they have to) and thus keep the economy from collapsing. Consumer demand among the middle class is afterall the lifeblood of any country's economy. The other side effect is that people will be less likely to go out and protest (because they actually have money to pay the bills and not starve) and spread this virus around even further.

In short...Universal Basic Income until this Pandemic wanes, the country opens up again, and employment resumes.

How are we gonna pay for it? I expect we'll be paying for it come next tax season (I expect some of that money will be clawed back by the government's taxmen when people start working again) but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. The whole point is to get money to people who need it right NOW. What's that great line about 'A Society being only 9 meals away from Anarchy?'

There also should be some serious tax reform when all this is over....mega corporations are long over due in paying their fair share. I'm looking at the likes of Amazon that has profited greatly during this Pandemic while small brick and mortar businesses go under.

Well, okay:

I've got my own technique of warding off COVID-19:

Chris The COVID Warrior.jpg

His name is Chris, he's from Cumbria and been guarding me since the Lockdown started and I'm still here, he's doing such a good job! He says amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.

At the moment his job title is "Chris the Covid Contender" but when there is more work about, he's actually a model (if you know what I mean). The above shots are from his portfolio.

Chris is looking shale and hearty!
You should see his dad, Cliff. Very outdoorsy. A bit on the chunky side almost to the point you'd call him overweight, but if he heared you he'd hit you like a tonne of bricks. A lot of substance in that family and no mistake.

Sounds like you’d have rocks in your head if you picked a fight with Cliff. As long as he doesn’t basalt anyone with that volcanic temper.

How have you found the lockdown there? Are you at the point of excavating your own stratum from boredom, or have you managed to chalk it all up as experience?

I've always had a bit of a sedimentary lifestyle rarely going out to the point this isn't so different for me, however Mrs 'BobFace is the proverbial rolling rock who gathers no moss so it's been harder on her, she thinks it's a load of Blarney and with every new restriction lifted having more requirements come with them has her thinking we are pushing a pebble up a hill with our noses.

The worst part about being furloughed is not knowing if there is going to be a work to go back to after the system ends, however I don't have any kind of quartz crystal ball and even second guessing what's going to happen is like getting blood out of a stone. Just have to have to sit back and bare the weight of it like Atlas.

Hows the New Normal looking round your way?

Wow, two Monty Python quotes in five minutes on this forum (Clive Johnson's was the other). It's gonna be a great day!

So we are all pissed at China for fudging their numbers right?

How y'all feeling about Georgia?

They initially put out this chart:

1589900931817.png

Looks good right? Numbers of cases dropping, not bad at all, in fact its great news since Georgia was one of the first states to re-open.

But then you look at the x-axis and wonder why 03May2020 is further to the right than 04May2020...

Surely nobody would notice them attempting to manipulate data to make it seem like cases were dropping, right?

Should talk about Florida next?

Is this covid related?

While Nasdaq will not cite Chinese companies specifically in the changes, the move is being driven largely by concerns about some of the Chinese IPO hopefuls’ lack of accounting transparency and close ties to powerful insiders, the sources said.

No, not COVID-19 related because that shit has been going on for a long time before Corona.

For way too long Chinese companies have been given access to the US stock markets, which is ok sometimes. But the part that is not ok is that there is no way to verify the true accounting behind what the companies from China claim. These companies can say anything about their spreadsheets, as long as the Chinese govt rubber stamps it, which they do as long as it benefits them.

There has been a need for US investors to participate in China growth for many years. Many times the companies are complete garbage.

There was even a movie about it in 2017:
