etter analogy is “I pre-ordered a 3080/3090 but pc gamer, Linus, and Jayz got theirs first”. Or I pre-ordered a 2023 mustang but car and driver and those idiots on Top Gear were allowed to drive one before I was”
I kind of see what you mean here, however I'd amend that to:

I pre-ordered a 3080/3090 and some of my neighbors were allowed them first. Imagine if Jerry from number 23 ran round to your house to show you that 3080 box... Then Tom from number 14... Then Rob from 56... and the reason they got them was because they spent more time hanging out at the Water Cooler at work and Nvidia wanted word-of-mouth advertising.

This wasn't the streamers getting a look cordoned off from the masses, like a press event, this was in the PTU once some of the public Waves had been let in. You had owners of the MSR see one spawn on the pads, run back in to the terminals only to find they could not spawn theirs and it was intentional.

It'd be like those idiots on Top Gear being parked on your drive in that '23 'Stang beeping the horn, and then wheel spinning it out of there just as you open your front door leaving you with nothing but a pair of tyre tracks to look at while you waited for yours to arrive on launch day. I'm glad you are having fun, guys, but on my own doorstep? Right in front of me?

Not very satisfying.

I don't do the PTU, I don't have the MSR, but with the power of hindsight I can see why people are pissed. Do I condone their pissyness? No because I have come to terms with this game being a long-wait and we all have out individual gripes where is my Taurus the MSR is concepted and released and the Taurus is just hanging on the vine forever what?... But I understand it.

I mean, I get it, if you go to a restaurant and they serve you out of order, that feels kinda insulting.

But I'm not quite sure if that's a perfectly accurate comparison, I mean, when you bought the ship you already knew that there was going to be a group of people that will get to try the ship out first, and that is, apart from the people making the ship or officially working for the CIG. Now, that already existing group that was going to get to try out the ship before you in anycase, was just made somewhat larger by adding streamers to the mix.

The way I see it, you paid for the ship to own it (oh, sorry, I mean, you "donated money to support the development and coincidentally got a ship in return"), being the first to fly it was never part of the deal. Personally I'm just happy I got to see more of spaceship.jpgs and .mp4s before the release.

I mean, some people spawning the ship in PTU while the owners couldn't wasn't anything new, it was just that before it was the developers spawning the ships to go show it off to the streamers, so the analogy would be like

"Before it used to be Henry Ford beeping the horn and spinning the wheels out there in my ford lawn, now it's the guys from Top Gear"

Yeah I see your angle... But there is undeniably quite a gulf of difference between the devs spawning an Idris and going for a joy-ride through a streamers session or a 'Tubers video, and fifteen of the 50 people on the server getting access to use an asset in the game. For all the donuts the Devs did in Youtubers videos and Twitchers streams, they didn't hand the ship keys over to the guys and gals to go off and play in.

It goes back to putting yourself in the space helmet of an owner, in the PTU having logged in in Wave 1 or 2 which is not the testing Evo stage, they are invited to come in and play...seeing the thing spawn 3 or 4 times, seeing it there on the pads and at the box pickup locations being flown by other players with names they may recognize as being other players who make videos/stream, and making the reasonable assumption that it was available for them to play with. As far as I am aware there was no advance warning saying "MSR is limited access only", so they would immediately go to the terminal to claim their prize... then it would not show... no big deal, I have to open and close the terminal 3 times before my Connie shows on the list, that's an old bug... still not there is this another bug...? And finally after some fact finding you discover no it's not a bug, it's intentional. You're not invited to the party pal, get to the back of the queue.

It's the first expiriance of a ship the player gets:
1) is where you get a virgin expiriance, you step over the threshold and bam it's all new to you.
2) is getting a fleeting glimpse of what is coming through someone else's eyes also seeing exactly what you're seeing - a fleeting glimpse.
3) is your first full expiriance of that new asset is someone else getting theirs, getting in it and buggering off to do whatever and then seeing a video of it later and how much fun they had in that ship you saw fly away.

It's a bad user expiriance. If CIG had advertised there would be a preferred content generator access period, perhaps there would have been be a shield to stand behind, but as far as I can tell there was no message to the masses as to what was going on. Although the iterations response wasn't very satisfying, at least it seems honest - they tried something, it didn't land, they'll not do it again and will try something else next time.

As I said in my other reply, I don't condone uninvited MSR owners pissyness - It's PTU, it's the test bed, all bets are off in that wilderness, it's not a playground it's a workspace and things happen in there for reasons beyond out comprehension. Don't like it, don't PTU, is my opinion... So I don't PTU and I don't have an MSR... but I understand why they are annoyed and I don't condemn them for feeling that way either.

In my original post before this one, I did also ponder that a press event on a private server with invited content makers, and an embargo on publishing videos/streaming a reaction event to what they saw to their viewers until the ship is available may be a reasonable solution - it may not - but I'd like to see it as an iteration on these attempts, I'd like to see it tried... Heck, host the Press Event with a live Jax McCleary. People would be falling over themselves to fly the ship and watch the videos. It would cost some resources, some staff time to hold the event, but if you are going to court the media - of any type - you are going to have to expend some resources to make the magic happen without stomping down everyone else by resorting to simple simple preferential treatment - an invited event may exclude 99.99% of backers but it is not as preferential as full early access for the 0.01%.

I watched the video.

I went to bed.

I had a dream where I was doing a coloring book which featured a Brontosaurus saving Big Bird from falling to to his death off a cliff by offering him a branch to grab hold to and pull him up with.
Here's what the coloring book in my dream looked like, but imagine it was by someone who could actually draw Big Bird, a Brontosaurus and a branch. And a cliff.
