I like it. I like it because it gives more variety to the life in the verse once civilian traffic goes live in a couple of years.
This seems to be the only logical reason to want this ship over existing haulers.

If you just prefer the look and aesthetics, and you feel this adds to your enjoyment of the game, then you pick the Railen.

I see it as a good alternative.
Want a mid-sized bulk cargo hauler? If it is in safe space, then Hull-B would be the logical choice, very inexpensive to operate and two medium shields should suffice.
If it is in unsafe space, then the Railen with its much beefier two large shields and potentially higher speed and maneuverability would be the way to go.

I think you hit the nail on the head. If it's unsafe space and valuable cargo, it will probably be worth having a few buddies on the ship to help you defend it, plus an escort.
But it needs to be worth it.

I like the variety it brings. Its worth the LTI token upgrade for its different looks (inside and out) and function.

I'm not to worried about its defensive ability. With its medium computer it can fit two level 1 blades for turret AI.

I'm guessing that players also will be able to drop a service beacon offering UEC for players (and NPCs) to provide escort during cargo runs.

After seeing a couple of video and several immage on this new concept I think this will be a very interesnting ship.
The dimension/cargospae ration is a bit off if compared to other hauler (especially since the Hercules series is a thing) so compare it those ships is doesn't end up well, but interior and desing wise it looks impressive so far, more in line with a 600i then a Starfarer or another dedicated cargo.

Yes It's not capable of hauling lots of cargo like other ship in the same category and yes it lacks some defensive firepower (I think is a bit short considering the ship size), but the cool factor is defentely hight and there will be some scenario where this is more important.
We don't have and don't know anything about some luxury item treading: if you are shipping expensive wine, just for example, to a hight end wine-shop in the middle of Terra maybe you need a more fancy ship to get the job istead of a greasy looking Freelancer Max.

It also appear to be more incline to long range travel (not super long range...) so luxury + distance could be a the winning combination for some profitable fun.

The problem is finding a cargo run that pays out enough to pay the escorts. There's no point offering 10k UEC if you only make 6k and there is no point offering 10% of proceeds if you only break even or even end up making a loss. Freelance commodity trading hauling is not a guaranteed return.

Unless the Cevilian Defence Force offer to pay those escort pilots wages they could end up out of pocket having wasted their time.

Also there is no guarantee of contact - players might get mighty bored of following some fat-ass hauler like a Starfarer around if they only get some Pew play once every six hires. It's a sim, yes, but it's not MS Flight Sim where you fly from point A to point B and that's all you can do. There is a 'Verse of possibilities out there, so following a shipment of urgently needed toilet rolls across two systems doesn't exactly scream 'gameplay'...

True, especially on the payment consideration.
For the "boring" job well that depend on how the Quanta (?? is that how CIG call it? I'm confused over all the quant-thing) will be implemented: some very lucrative route will likely have also a good amount of AI pirate on them, also some location could be more hot then others so even if the jurney itself has gone smooth, you'll likely need to scout forward the area before bring in the cargo juice.

Escort job will very likely something you'll have and never need to use, but the only time you don't have it is the time you'll really need it...

What I try to remember is that games have spawned AI wingmen for 30+ years now in different formats. So Star Citizen will definitely be able to do it.

The question is on in game cost to summon such support. But surely CIG will balance that so it is not unreasonable.

They are building huge cargo ships to sell, want to sell more of those, and so will balance it to keep it fun.

I'd be more worried about being a pirate wanting to spawn support. Will it be more costly for those with high pirate faction standing to drop a service beacon and get help.

I wasn't aware CIG released info on the mumber of blades/AI per computer. What did they say? 1 for small, 2 for medium, 3 for large?
From what I have been able to find. Yes, 1 for small, 2 for medium, and 3 for large.

There will also be different types of blades:
Salvaging, Exploration, Smuggling, etc...

Think Tony Z spoke on it and I also saw something from Supermacbrother:

Great stuff on the new cargo ship, I was very pleasantly surprised by the size of the interior. This ship hands down gets the coolness factor award for the elevators alone. If it's as fast as a Carrack, I might choose it over one.

Also good stuff on the 4 alien races, may the Vanduul all perish from anxiety as they watch their families burn.

Its the first concept over $100 I have bought outright with fresh cash since the Polaris.

I’ve got larger cargo haulers, I’ve got cargo haulers that have more guns, I’ve got one of the two best defended ships capable of carrying 3000SCU+ in the game, but this is fantastic.

It looks great, it will probably sound amazing as well if their audio work on this is as good as their other alien ships, its got big shields, it will be reasonably fast and agile, its going to be a whole lot of fun to play with.
