Yet, with respect, if this was the ARGO Cargo vs the Pisces, you could look at the spreadsheets to compare them & 90%+ of the time, the Pisces would pimp slap the Argo Cargo across the Stanton system long ways. The only advantage that the ARGO Cargo would have over it is that the Cargo is supposed to eventually swap cargo pods, but even then The Pisces beats it hands down in having a quantum drive, weapons, more cargo space, more seats & in my personal opinion it has nicer styling.
True, in category, the Argo sucks on paper. It is smaller though and might fit into places (caves) where the Pisces does not. Basically that's the only thing going for it, and the ease of use. It takes 2 seconds to get into it, and another 2 to get going, unlike every other ship with what feels like half an hour long door/canopy opening and ladder climbing, but that's not really that important.
the way i look at it is i don't need to buy that thing right now id much rather put my money tword a good ship and buy a argo later if needed in game. i do not think it will perform well in sales i think the big thing is streamers are pushing popularity in their streams and telling people to vote for it so the people who would not normally vote are voteing due to peer pressure because it is "Cool" that and people like to see an underdog win.
Yeah because you are an old timer in SC, you know what you are doing. The hundreds (thousands?) of ppl coming over from ED and the much larger number of new players who just picked up SC thanks to the recent free fly events don't. They see a small CHEAP cute transport ship that is being pushed by memes and streamers, and they might wanna be part of it. So they might click the buy button due to the peer pressure and that they like an underdog. I think it will do better then expected.
Then they'll all get melted when the next big event and ship sale comes around in a couple of weeks with CitCon and they can spend more money on something useful. I'll probably end up melting my own if there will be something with a cool skin and similarly cheap on sale.
Ppl like to see the underdog win cos last couple of years have been nothing but whales circlejerking. It get's old fast.
If it had been the Aurora, Mustang, or even cutlass that won again, I would be okay with the results, but the Argo has no weapons, no jump drive, is slow as snot, and is…in general, only going to be owned by those that have it as an LTI token or those that own a heck of a lot of ships as there is no real use for it in-game. It exists solely for the plot points in SQ 42, nothing more. Even the Merlin has more versatility and use vs the MPUC.
At the moment it's rather useless. Hopefully this will prompt CiG to do something about it and put in some box missions, cave missions, or other short range missions that warrant the use of such small cargo capable ships, something that a Merlin or Mustang or similarly cheap and small can't do. Aurora and Mustang and I'm guessing the Cutlass as well are the most numerous ships in SC so sales would be much lower, but would have made much more sense as winners to me as well.
You're more than likely correct, so I hope that CIG realizes that & in future BIS events takes measures to cause that to be nerfed if not entirely nullified as vote tampering. Perhaps holding the amount of actually owned ships of each as a separate vote in favor of the ship. If a person has both ships, their ships of a single type would count as a single ship to nullify each other, but still count, yet if somebody doesn't have the ship, they don't have the additional votes. I'd also still put a limit on how many times a particular ship can be qualified to be entered by each time it hits the final 4.
That's a rather huge chunk of the player base basically out of the voting. I for instance had non of the ships that ran this year. Non. This would just create an Elite tier above the peasants (like me who hasn't yet spent over 500bucks on ships) who could sway the votes regardless of the what the ppl want. See the problem with that in a contest that is aimed at bringing in fresh ship sales?
What is vote tempering about just someone on the internet showing that they like a ship and tells you to vote for that? That's not tempering, that's advertisement, or propaganda if you will. You can and SHould make up your own mind whether you want to do that or not!
Someone making 900 brand new accounts just to vote for a ship, now that is tempering.
If it isn't already in place, the voting should be limited to those who owned a full game package for at least a couple of weeks or months even before the voting starts. This would eliminate the fake votes from new accounts just made for voting, and it would stop anyone with very deep pockets to do the same by buying a bunch a cheap starter pack accounts. Although CiG might wanna keep that last option in, cos money spent on them is obviously the goal so.. yeah.
I've always seen this event as nothing more then a rather boring and meaningless marketing ploy to get more expensive ship sales, something aimed at the whales and not the general player base. Now the player base shows how much of a joke it all has been by taking part and trolling the hell out of it. Nothing wrong with that imo, cos there is no consequence to it. Just like with the voting for the emperor or whatever (which was rigged by the "ppl of the universe in game"), it won't change anything about the game.
Remember, a ship paintshop is already in the works, so you will probably be able to get the same colors and maybe even the same pattern on your ships anyways. Probably.
