Well. A week ago, my nephew came home from school because he was exposed to COVID. He's in elementary school so no big deal right?
Mom (my wife's sister) and Dad both got colds a few days later, and employers required a test before they could go back to work. Kicked and screamed (and whined) because neither wanted the test. My wife got a call from her sister while they were waiting for their test, angry because she had to go through "this useless test". They tend to whine a lot.
Upshot: PCR test. Both tested positive, despite being vaccinated. Imagine that. No big deal so far other than the needle drama.
Except my mother in law lives with them. She is an immunocompromised stroke survivor, and at high risk both due to the condition and the medication she requires.

That is why people need to take this seriously, get vaccinated even if you don't like needles, and react if you've been exposed. Any other course of action is irresponsible. And as far as "freedom" goes, with any freedom comes responsibility. Put another way, responsibility is how we preserve freedom.

While I am not sure I would but covid on the same level as these deseases, I agree there is no reason not to be vaccinated unless the vaccine has a high risk of harming you personally.
Why are you showing the schedule of childhood vaccinations? A COVID vaccine doesn't belong on that list until it is approved for childhood vaccination. Currently, there are clinical trials, but no approval yet.

It doesn't and I don't think children will be approved due to no medical necessity. But point was that most people have been as well as typically vaccinate their children without a second thought, that while I am against forcing anyone to go against their desires I still don't understand why there is so much political drama so much ad revenue and so much political power plays regarding it.

My province is awaiting approval of vaccinations for kids as young as 6.

I’m fine with it pending regulatory approval. Would love for my 8 year old niece to get the shot since she gets her grubby hands everywhere and gets sick all the time.

Kids are the worst. I’ve seen these little shits lick doorknobs for fun.

My fingers are crossed they all get through unscathed.

Thank you @NaffNaffBobFace. So are mine.

We had a good laugh today about the situation. My sister in law is the most symptomatic of the bunch, my wife joked that she could go to Tractor Supply and get a bottle of Ivermectin... for cattle. But then her GP called literally 3 minutes later, and said he wants to give her an injection of it. Everyone was shocked until I explained that yeah it's a dewormer, but it's also a cheap way to deal with some secondary bacterial infections that can hitch a ride.... and she probably has worms anyway. I mean she's my sister in law, not my wife so I can say that.

We got a care package to my mother in law too, delivered via open window express. She's good for the next 10-14 days. Even has a microwave and fridge. We included toilet paper... unfortunately for me it was the package that I was going to try to use to make a toilet paper gun according to the plans drawn up by TEST Internal Science Krefting 3 (TISK TISK TISK or whatever it's called), if anyone remembers that.

Wait you gave up toilet paper? Arn't you afraid that it will become scarce again?

Oh, they do. The pushback on young children for vaccination has to do with risk assessment as it doesn't necessarily prevent the kids from getting covid or being sick and since they are for the most part not impacted by being sick the risk of complications from the vaccine outways any good from being vaccinated.

It is scares again in this area... grocery and department stores hardly have any, been like that most of last year, and half of this. However, "He who shops at Costco can have enough to last for months" and if it's ever out of stock in the house AND Costco (which has happened) there's always nose wipe and boxes of those wet wipes. We also have oak trees hanging over in the back yard. Those things drop more leaves than you'd ever need, unless you're allergic to it. That would be very un-good.

Finally!

Last year we were dodging bullets all school year long. Every other week there was an email from the school saying there was an exposure event and they will contact you if your child was in the affected class.

We never got any notifications, our kids made it through the year with no exposure.

The schools here are doing a good job at compartmentalizing the kids between grades and break times in order to minimize possible exposures.

Yeah I suppose that's for my local health authorities to decide. I don't think any of us are qualified to make that assessment. That said, I do doubt there'll be a national effort to make vaccination mandatory for kids. Hell...forget about the kids, It's already a contentious issues for adults. Don't want to bring in the 'Won't anyone think of the children!?' crowd as well. We actually had a group of adults protesting outside High Schools lately....crazies were screaming at high schoolers to 'exercise their freedom' and avoid the jab.

Funny I don't remember having the choice to exercise my freedom when 5 year old me was getting my ass jabbed with TB, Measles/Rubella, Polio, Tetanus, etc. shots.

For what it's worth, the missus does have kids as young as 10 in her Covid ward. Granted some of these kids probably weigh more than I do. Buncha Augustus Gloops.

Indeed about the vaccine schedule for kids which I had posted earlier as an example of questioning how this all went sideways. But I am also concerned that the current medical pushback on kid-required covid vaccination will be sidestepped out of political convenience. Especially given the current studies show that the risk associated with those under the age of 20 have a very small chance of covid related complications/death and a slightly higher risk of complications/death from the vaccine. Not to say there is no risk especially with kids that have underlying heath issues like obesity.
