Redeemer 1000% times for combat. Been testing it a lot, it is a beast.

Yesterday again during CFT vs 3 Ares, it survived without a single scratch.

But those 2 ships are really different.
Redeemer is a pure gunboat, with tons of HP and stamina and tons of DPS.
400i is a fancy explorer with just enough DPS for its size, with just a small bike in hangar and nothing too exeptionnal compared to others explorer ships like the Aquila or the Corsair, in similar category, the lasts being better imho.

A bit similar for handling, though the 400i shines here vs the Redeemer (a bit more agile).

But Redeemer is not really a solo ship. You can do solo missions, but its agility is not that confortable vs small fighters (similar to a Connie). Better with 1-2 gunners.

I bought the 400i warbond at release, but got it refunded since I did not like the ship at all in the end. And I will pass on this one.

I have a Redeemer that I will keep 100%, it will be one of my daily ships at release for sure. Personnal feeling :)

This is a glowing account so thank you. Like @vahadar has said I will rent the ship and have some fun with it and see how it goes.

I have the 400i and whilst it looks good its sort of pointless too.

Which would you pick over either the 400i and redeemer?

I'm looking to get the areas, I currently have the warden, think the redeemer fits in there for me or am I wasting my money ?
Well as @vahadar already state those are very different ships with very different purpose.
I personally don't fancy at all the 400i, it doesn't feel anything special compared to the advertised competitor of the Aquila, it doesn't even have some computer to store the exploration data on (at least not in plain sight) and it can carry a proper rover, likely not even the origin one. As an explorer ship feel in the same place as the MSR that also have plenty of computer and data-storage and a better cargo area, both for raw cargo capacity and vechicle trasport capability... the 400i just looks fancy and on that side I defenetly prefer the 600i hands down.

The Redeemer on the other hand looks like a very cabable ship end even if it shine only with a crew of 3-4 even while soloing it provide a good firepower.
Considering that you already have a Warden the Redeemer feels like a redundancy of that ship while soloing, with a plus of the very heavy firepower of the turrets if play with others.
Seconding the Vahadar suggestion of rent both and try them out first, I'll also suggest eventually to upgrade the Warden to the Redeemer and then get the 400i as an additional ship.

Yeah ... Very different ships here.

The 400i is a daily driving explorer ship with the ability to play with a few friends.

The Redeemer is a multi crew "need to make things go boom" ship.

400i for general purpose and money making. Redeemer for serious battles where you'll be eating said money in ammo.

What you didn't mention is what OTHER ships do you have/plan to have? As much as I like the 400i, I already have a Connie and a Carrack, and didn't feel like the 400i fit in very well, nor did I want it in place of either of those. But if I didn't have 'other' exploration ships, especially at that tier, then the 400i would be VERY enticing!
As for the Redeemer, it is absolutely a great ship, but with equal absolution it's really ONLY worth flying with at least 2 people, and preferably 3. You'd be far better off with something like a MIS or Vanguard if you're flying solo.

I'll be getting a vanguard again as its a favorite, just fits my ccu cycle to upgrade from that.

I don't really have a plan with my ships, I just buy what I like.

I know I enjoy PvE and trading so I know I'll go for these ships overall.

What I currently have is

MPVU cargo -- Will be ccu to Ares
400i ->>>> will be ccud to warden
HULL D
RSI PERSEUS
HERCULES STARLIFTER M2
REDEEMER
MSR --- > will be ccu to banu just saving right now for bis skin
ORIGIN 600i Exploration
Carrack

I don't really enjoy the carrack as it stands right now

Bare in mind the things the 400i is suited for (Long distance, exploration) dont exist in the game yet. The things the redeemer is suited for (pew pew boom boom) is most of the game right now.

Buy one or the other and keep an upgrade to the other one in stock if your not sure!

I just don't have the money for these ships anymore, so I have to be creative. I had just CCU'd an LTI Freelancer MAX to a 400i('cuz pretty, and cargo seems broken, and the Spicyweiner Consortium's transportation division has excess capacity), and I was starting to enjoy it. Then comes this redeemer. I have loved this ship for 5 years(maybe longer, I don't think it had even been selected as next great starship winner yet)and I bought it and put it in my hangar until there were no more hangars. I finally CCU'd it when I thought it would never materialize.

My kneejerk reaction was CCU the 400i, but I thought why, when I have a vanguard sentinel. But the Sentinel only has 3 years of insurance. So I drank some scotch(actually a LOT of scotch), and as usual genius struck. I remembered buying an LTI ARGO MOLE while it was still in concept, and it just sat for awhile until it was flyable. One day, 2 of them showed up in my kiosk so I flew it and had fun, thinking the other one was just a subscriber ship of the month. But it stuck around and I found out that it was the loaner for the RSI Orion I bought years ago. So today, I CCU'd the extra MOLE and now I have my beloved LTI redeemer back, still have the 400i AND a MOLE. What a long twisted road it's been.
