Ubisoft announced their NFT cosmetics, their community is pissed!
That would remain the same. They sell a ship, you buy it, it funds the game. Were here to fund the project with pledges. It's worked up until now, why would they change?

The big difference is that the ship remains tradable between anybody, much like they are now, but without CIG being involved in any transaction beyond the very first one.
No, you dont get to create your own armor or ships. Only CIG makes those, so this is nothing like Second life.I almost see that as the Second Lifers who desperately want CIG to allow user driven content that is tradable and sellable in real life currency.
How is this any different from your account holding an Idris? You bought a digital item, its pixels in your account.legal issues surrounding ownership and regulation for those kinds of things probably isn't something they want to tackle.

They dont hand out anything. My point is ... why would CIG start handing out NFTs when they can get people to pay hundreds of dollars for digital items that CIG owns
No difference from the CSGO Community Market on Steam, except NFTs dont need to trade on the Community Market.NFT's are mostly a solution looking for a problem to solve.
They dont hand out anything.
Imagine the next sale.. its a gold plated Aurora, only 100 will be sold, each at $1000.
That is a quick $100k CIG makes.
Now I own 1 of these rare ships, I can keep it, or I can sell it. No different from how things are right now.
The only difference is that this gold plated Aurora can be sold and re-sold indefinitely to anybody that wants it without CIG being involved in that sale.
However, you don't actually own an aurora. You have access to a digital asset they exchanged with you for your donation to Star Citizen's development. The problem is ownership. That creates liability. Liability cost money.
If they mess with the Aurora I own and spent $1,000 for ... that's destruction of private property.
But if they turned ships into NFTs... you WOULD own them. However, you don't actually own an aurora. You have access to a digital asset they exchanged with you for your donation to Star Citizen's development.
Which is only a problem for CIG because we also have to pay sales taxes on that... which makes it something other than a donation. Not sure how that would hold up in a court.
NFT's do give Ubisoft the ability to collect a portion of the selling price when "ownership of the token" is transferred, and they can make more assets if they want to. Nothing exists that could stop them.No difference from the CSGO Community Market on Steam, except NFTs dont need to trade on the Community Market.
Or you own access to a digital item, which they can modify at any time.CIG can't LEGALLY modify ships they no longer own.

There is nothing that says the thing you buy must remain 100% the same on their servers where it is used.
