I can see the Vanguard competing with the Freelancer DUR as an exploration ship if it has been properly modified.
Yeah, with the long range and the advanced scanning array that was mentioned in the original description, I was figuring it could work well as an exploration ship. Plus the durable nature means you don't have to worry as much about running into wayward pirates or aliens while out on your own.

I am still super skeptical that this can bring as much to the table as a merchantman, retaliator, or redeemer.

Really like the design but it's got some work cut out for it if it wants to take the place of my Redeemer and I doubt the concept sale is gonna last long enough for another playmoney paycheck to show up. Sad tho cause it is so beautiful :*(

I like the ship, just don't think I will melt a same price ship to get it..... but then again I am a sucker for a good concept brochure ..... damn you 890 jump !
The Vanguard definitely fills in a niche that's underserved in the combat arena. The Vanguard is designed for long-range strike missions. Could be used to escort Retaliators, or to hit at a distant enemy's fighter defenses prior to a full carrier assault.
It is a heavy fighter versus a medium one and can take off from a planet and jump to a different system while a hornet and a lightning will need to refuel at a carrier

Ahh i will have to see the stats before melting anything again. Still would be great to create some distraction so the talis can get where they need to get be in OP yawspoon.
I'm actually starting to worry that they'll sandbag the Merchantman. Although they have said differently, I find it hard to believe that they won't eventually balance in game value and actual cost. If that happens the Merchantman could go from what looked to be a steal to meh. Hopefully if they did decide to balance on price at some point they would just consider the Merchantman lost revenue and still make it amazing.
