I must admit, it is a bit disconcerting that the uber quality detail we see now probably won't be there after optimization. In fact one of the major selling points of SC is incredible detail. We shall see I guess. But am really taken aback by how well Elite works with little to no effect on cpu...

Good point. Optimization should change everything. I only hope that optimization won't cut too much into the detail that SC is famous for. Although, if you were to lower quality 10-15% via optimization, SC would still be the best looking game out there.

That's funny, I didn't notice any rendering problems in the many Elite Alpha videos.

Why does SC's rendering inferior to Elites? I noticed that Elite's rendering is 99.9% perfect even at great distances but I can't even get a full render in SC's hangar. And the quality of Elites renderings are pretty damn good, especially stations which are massive! And I know it isn't my rig...
