Actually, Contact Harvest would have been incredible as well. Or the spirit of fire duology, which could have been made Spartan light. But probably a no-go due to a significant lack of Master Chief.

Halo:The Fall of Reach or Halo: First Strike would have both been incredible to adapt. I know they made a fall of reach cartoon but that really would have been the way to go if armor and showing emotion was the concern - show the program pre-armor.
