I'm just a hack de-rigger... mostly because I like the way Geek's eyes bug out when his rig fails...
GMT is a timezone. UTC is not.

I was confused a bit too - so if you say 18.00 UTC without quoting a + or a - offset then it means 18.00 GMT basically as we have the boss time over in the uk?
It could be a local thing because of where you live, but UTC is the long time successor to GMT. For all intents and purposes, they mean the same thing for the giveaway.
If you observe DST use that offset.. I.e. in EST (Eastern Standard Time) we would be -5 UTC but right now in daylight savings (EDT), we are -4 UTC.
