Personally, I'm waiting for more info. With a medium quantum tank and no info on med bay and a really messed up weight number, I need more info before I can see myself in one of these. If its got paper thin armor then its really not worth it.

As a counter I would imagine an eclipse launching from a Polaris and when in range the Polaris firing torps at a Capital range. The medium radar range of the Hammerhead would only sound the alarm when detected. By that time eclipse would be ready unloading its payload at a closer distance crippling the ship while the Polaris torpedoes end it.

Striderevil I think the Hammerhead is an interesting ship. At first glance it appears to hard counter 99% of the ships in star citizen i.e. not the capital ships. This is as close to pay to win as you will find in star citizen. I have no idea how they will balance it, but I expect it cannot power up all its turrets with energy weopons at the very least. Even so I like the look of the ship and for me it looks like a great escort vessel and will be generally more usable than the polaris. I have both by the way but if its not as good as it looks I can melt it and bring out the ships I melted for it so it hasn't cost me much to have the option.

The polaris is mostly bigger due to the hanger and although carrying one ship is largely useless as a multiplier it does give you flexibility. I also expect the Polaris to have longer range. The Hammerhead though can go active with a much smaller crew and I do think that's significant.

You didnt buy the hammerhead yet did you lol? I just got the money to buy the warbond one for you.....

ah lol i havnt bought it yet as i wanted to confirm if i was still on with crymsan or not. I'll make a decision later on who knows maybe something i like more will come out from CO or something theres always potential

I mistook some things from an earlier drawing. Looks like the aft port and starboard turrets cannot fire directly forward. I'm disappointed the forward side turrets are so far out that they're in the way of the rear turrets. Why would anyone desing like that?

I feel like my Idris-p is bulky and vulnerable compared to the Hammerhead and Polaris.
The Idris is a real cap ship. It will be able to take several times the beating of a Polaris and many times the beating of the Hammerhead. The issues are finding the folks to crew her, and getting her to the action given her relatively slow speed.

I can't make a call on this thing without much better data on her speed. The Polaris we know is much faster than a cap ship, so can do its main job. If it is much slower than a fighter it can still do its job. If the Hammerhead is not at least the speed of a Vanguard, it will have huge trouble doing it's job. Also note, all the Polaris guns will fire forward at once. That is not true here. And the radar, communications, electronic warfare, and available marine contingent on the Polaris is likely to be far more advanced than on the Hammerhead. If what you want to do is earn a living recycling the carcasses of fighters, the Hammerhead is the ship to have, or if you are a Merc wanting work killing Vanduul for the Son's of Orion.

And just noting, since the quad turrets are new with the Hurricane, we may see them on the Polaris and all the cap ships. I would not be surprised by that.

BTW, the Flack Cannons are strictly S6, and have crappy range so no good for primaries, but great for self defense on a couple points of a ship. They won't fit on this, but they will on the chin of the Polaris, and on the Idris and up.

That sounds ideal to me. I don't want a ton of ships because I'm not super into many professions.
I am a simple man: I like the medical profession, so I got a Hope and a Red. The Aurora and the Dragonfly are extras.

Also, I've seen other people building their fleets like "I got an Orion that I'll use for mining, a Hull C that will load the minerals from the Orion and ship them to my Pioneer, which will build some stuff with those minerals."
I don't think you'll be able to pilot or use all of the ships in your fleet at the same time. What happens to your Orion while you go and fetch your Hull C?
You'll need someone else's ships to complete a "fleet" or a ship combo. While I'm flying my Hope, I won't be using my Cutlass Red at the same time. I'll need other people who own Cutlass Reds to come and play with me. Yes, it might help to own all the ships needed for a single operation, but here in TEST we ALL have ships, so what's the point?

Actually I do not think the Hammerhead will be fast or need to be fast. It is a picket line in a fleet with slower bigger ships or escort duty. I absolutely think single fighters will be able to outrun it otherwise it would be overpowered.
I completely agree with this there has to be some sort of ship to be able to take down the hammerheads such as an eclipse or other capital ship.

Good points! I think tht the HHs major limiting factor is going to end up being speed. Its designed to shred fighters but what if the fighters could simply outrun it? Another thought that could potentially make all the HHs power irrelevant would be if a scanner ship or stealth ship could "paint" it and then maybe hve a polaris or eclipse w armored or low signature torpedos fire from a distance or outside of the HH radar range.

I won't be getting a Hammerhead. I want to keep my fleet as small as possible and 4 ships are already too many for me.
I'm just waiting for MISC day (this Thursday) to see if they make the Endeavor modules available.
The Tali and Vanguard modules are not available.

I just shifted my fleet plan from 4 ships down to 3. I agree four is my max, it is already going to be rough moving my little fleet to a new base, especially with 3 sets of Tali modules, (which is the final plan. :) ) I just hope I can put all four ground vehicles into one trip with the cargo modules. in the Tal.

I definitely see a traffic jam under the elevators are though. LOL.

I was going to post something but the conversation of the thread didn't match up but now it does.

I was going to say I was going to buy a retaliator or eclipse now that this thing is out, it sounds like they are making guns so big and powerful that we will now require torpedoes to break any form of assault with even a few ships. Everything has either been buffed or new ships completely overtake everything else in usefulness to the point that my 325a has very little to show.

I know the retaliator has been nerfed but does anyone know if it return to being even decent? Surely a Hammerhead can easily wreck three retaliators in it's current state.

I completely agree with this. This is precisely my thinking now. I can only fly one at a time, so why own more than a couple. I'll just crew on TEST ships. Fun fun

I think if you want to board something like this, you need to be able to spike it, and then shoot off all 6 manned turrets. You could get your ass kicked pretty badly trying to do that. If the turrets don't go down when the computer goes down--and I think this is one of the advantages of a manned as opposed to unmanned turret--these are going to be as hard to board as a Polaris on up. Now if all you want to do is blow it up, you might not need more than a single Tally for that. Just use the Torps instead of the guns. If your Tally can lock on outside the S3 missile range of the HH, you can toast over it's remains after the fact.

If the three talis unload from three vectors the Hammerhead is likely to turn into a fast expanding ball of gas. Even if the Hammerhead is as fast as a Tali, it will be lucky to get one of them if it survives, unless they stick together for some reason.

You are dealing with point defense vs. anti-ship missiles. How fast can each missiles be effectively engaged? How long does it take a Torp to cross the engagement zone of those turrets? Also will there be jamming warheads?

Size 4 guns are much shorter range than size 9 torps, a Tali should never close against a target like that. (LOL) unless you are delivering 2 squads of Marines behind a Saber Raven strike. :)

Two Talis and a Sentinel is likely to be a bit more effective than three Talis. In fact one tali and a Sentinel is likely enough for a Hammerhead or a Polaris, just stay out of the front arc of the Polaris. LOL.

A Raven and a pair of Eclipses would also be really nasty when hunting Hammerheads and Polarises (Polari?)
