I will also add that the approach I have taken here so far, which has worked, is that I let the direction this org is going flow along its natural path, then make small corrections as needed.

We have a good general idea of where we need to be, and we are on the right path, not because we forced it, but because everybody here is on the same page!

Lol I think we're going in circles. Anybody can do literally anything. A newbie wants to run a 100 man op? It's possible, nobody's going to stop you, but not plausible simply because nobody knows you ('you' being generic) or your capabilities. I think Anybody can "technically" run a big, expensive op, the only "permissions" you will need from senior members will most likely be limited to access to the big expensive ships. Because they're expensive and, you know, spais.

I get the impression that 'leadership' (and I DO use that term loosely) will be mostly merit based. You will be able to lead 100 people into battle because you've shown you're capable and those 100 people know your name. You've earned your stripes and cut your teeth, ranks or titles be damned. Nobody really knows me, but that's not going to stop me at least TRYING to organize pirate ops to hijack an Orion to sell to the Rock Raiders.

Well id say you hit the nail on the head and said what never needed to be said untill now. @TheWoad you summed it up perfectly.

The only fleets i see being done are by FC's (fleet commanders) that are either vetted and supported to lead oficial ops or small scale groups lead by an FC who usually leads the same 10 people each day. What we need is for this dam game to come out already. Once we are up and running everyone will have a better understanding since they can see it in action.

I rather like our unorganized command structure. Our form or systematic chaos works quite well for us. Take our Javelin the S.S. Murderer for example. We painted lines in the hall with beer so people knew where to go and how to get to their stations. I say our command structure is working well and as intended.

I think you misunderstand, we won't have ranks in the formal sense. There will be force commanders for individual fleets, and we'll have some sort of equivalent structure for marines. There will never be a point where I can lord over some noob because I've been here for years and I'm one of the most consistently active people in the org. Ranks are meaningless. Talented FC's will be allowed to form fleets, while FC's in training will be given fleet subsection command for the duration of the battle. Outside of battle, we'll basically have chat mods whose only role is to keep chat clean and people that have clout simply because they're known and respected in the community, not because of any formal assignment. There will be people who do clerical work: IT, human resources, propaganda production- all the behind-the-scenes stuff that keeps an organization like us pumping- but that's entirely different from a command structure. The fact is, outside of a fleet, no one has any right to tell anyone what to do. We're about giving people the ability to enjoy star citizen their way, and to help them find dozens of friends doing it.
