Who needs stealth when you have big guns?
'Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment — that which they cannot anticipate.'

Once the PTU is actually playable and "stealth" mechanics are implemented I plan on testing this theory and writing in more detail, but in the meantime...

My working theory is everyone thinks about the Tali backwards. The Retaliator
- Can accomplish long distance, hard hitting strikes against vessels much larger than itself
- Deliver operatives
- Go for long distances and periods at a time

And provided it's outfitted and handled in this manner, accomplish decent stealth.

The tali is not a bomber, it's a submarine.

I wouldn't say Nuclear as it's still needs to refuel and get supplies. It also isn't going to perfect when it comes to your signature, even if you fine tune everything, so I'd compare it to a diesel submarine.

Unless of course you're like me and plan on shutting everything off for a little while till the target comes into range, and then proceed to blow the shit out of them. Shit, I hope they add a way to play poker on your ship in this game.

Theyve always referred to the tali as a long range bomber, I think a good comparison would be something like a B52, launching massive raids over huge distances to deal huge amounts of damage

a B52 carpet bombs

the retaliator will never do that, lock time is too long and can only have 3(?) torpedoes ready at any given time. i don't see much resemblance to it.

in a sub however, you're limited in the amount of torpedo tubes you can load and you can't instantly rain hell with thousands of bombs.

I didnt mean that the link was quite as direct as that, carpet bombing isnt really going to be a thing in SC as far as i can tell. I more meant that the gladiator is more like lets say an FA/18, a harbinger is more of an A10, and the tali is more like a B1B, tactical bombers vs strategic bombers, I do like the submarine comparison btw, the only difference Im would say is that subs tend to rely more on stealth than hit and run.

Maybe WWII is a better comparison. A gladiator is like a grumman avenger, almost a fighter, but bigger and heavier. A harbinger is more like a mosquito, maybe even a B25, long range, not really a fighter anymore. The Tali is more like a B17, lots of guns, slower, less manouveralbe, desgined to fly in large raids with mutual coverage (with escorts if possible) over large distances to do huge amounts of damage.

yeah earlier in the post I said I planned out outfitting and operating my tali for max stealth. I wasn't kidding when I said I'll sit behind an asteroid with the ship off for 30 min waiting to sneak up on a convoy. or shut a lot of systems off and slowly approach a target, whatever works best in the situation.

I dunno where I'll side. I might blow up pirates, bengals, whatever looks the most fun and i can profit from.

edit: and by profit, I mean Im probably going to need to make friends with some people in salvaging...

Polarii in Bomber Squadron ?
Polaris is capital ship, not a bomber. Even though it has torpedoes we would have to include the idris too. But we have already been clarified by CIG polaris will be classed capital ships and use capital components. ATT only bombers are the vanguard variant, gladiator, tali.

I'd say we use them as a bomber/carrier and a bomber-carrier! Have a Gladiator/Harbinger in the back and use the big ass torps on the Polaris. Just think of it as the torp frigate in homeworld. We could use it to do shit tonnes of damage against the advocacy Evil vanduul space AIDS infected baddies.... thats totally what i meant!
