Well update..it's settled...

I shall be joining the ranks of elitist Mercedes owning tools. Had a talk with my wife who freaks out about spending money, I said it would gut me to see some piece of shit dirt-bag driving the AMG around, not knowing anything of it's history for the last 10 years. It needs a fair amount of work to be looking good again but there's no rush, as we still have more than one car. My WRX has low mileage and is in very good condition with no money needing to be spent on it and serviced every 4000 km.....literally every 4000km. My wife said her brother would love that idea, as would his father (a Mercedes tragic) and her niece can help do stuff for it also.

It will cost money as all Merc's do, but i'm fine with that given the reasons for owning it and it also being the last of a great automotive era, the last of Mercedes' naturally aspirated V8's..The WRX is a fantastic drive, but driving the AMG is something else, the noise it makes is nothing short of sublime automotive sex in a bondage club in Germany with latex clad European supermodels high on coke and literally up for anything with no safe-word (my imagination is vivid..too vivid) and it's the car I did not know I wanted having owned a few V8's before, nothing comes close.

Also fun fact..6.2lt V8 in a chassis that is actually physically smaller than my WRX = Awesome.

You have done well young Jedi!......A nice audio from under the hood is worth every penny spent in my humble opinion......It could worse,..my rotors for the maserati set me back 800 us for the 2 fronts not including pads.....Worth every penny during W.O.T......Cheers :o7:

Absolutely, every V8 I ever owned, always had a crappy stereo, because I never used it. Music was windows open (and sunroof if it had one) and no talking..

Yes that is the reflection of the footwell light in the pond...
Roof/panoramic window drains are buggered, as usual in all e46 (and e39) variants including my X3.

Edit : it's been raining like crazy for a couple of days, found it like this this morning even though I dried it out (mostly) yesterday

That's an easy one. There's either 2 or 3 drains right under the front windscreen. They drain down the side of each wheel arch. If blocked with leaves etc, water can pour in to the top of the dash via the heater vents. I know it's comically bad design eh? The people that say german engineering..... usually drive japanese cars, me included. To gain access you may or may not have to take the wipers off and a bit of plastic trim and poke each drain from the top with a very long thin thing. Occasionally if it's badly blocked you'll have to take the wheel arch liner off and poke upwards too. Yours looks badly blocked.

I've had to do this on my SLK and my ML and my S class - totally common but most people ignore it and think I'll do it next month..9 years later the footwell looks like yours. One thing to bear in mind on a lot of mercs the ECU and a load of wiring is right under the passenger foot kick pannel so don't piddle around, unblock, dry it out as much as you can ASAP or bad things can happen.

Yep, that is a common issue indeed. On bimmers like mine it's either the "pouring in through the vents" or the other way. In my case, it's the plastic tubing in the A pillar., it's filled up with crap again through the roof window drain and pours out at a joint. I know cos I had this issue when I bought the car 3 years ago, and had to do it. Not so easy to get to in a hurry, lots of nice interlocking panels, including the dash.. So it will be a bitch to get done, but it has to be. Thankfully I have all the important electronics on the other side of the firewall in a sealed off box behind the front left strut, although other models do keep some stuff down there, I think e60 and 90s and onwards. I also need to clean out the rear drains cos the rear left "ohshitwe'regonnadie" handle above the door is also dripping like an old tap in a horror movie. But those are much easier to get to.
Stupidest thing is, in most not too severe cases, it's just the rubber tit at the end of these pipes that is plugged up with leaves and shit, but it's so small and usually behind the wheels that no one notices they are even there. The problem is that their end is + shaped, so there is basically no way for anything solid to escape, so once dirt gets in there, u r fucked.

Wait a minute. . .

But I'm more of a BMW than a Merc guy, so I'm a little confused as to why you'd be worried about ME ending up with your car. . . :D
Haha I took his car in for a wheel alignment after we got it back from the workshop. While I was waiting, two dirtbag teenagers on **Provisional plates, rolled up to the wheel place with an old M-Series of some description, front end half smashed in (fresh damage) and a busted (totally munted) rim. They wanted the wheel place to fix the rim and throw the tire back on....they got laughed at and told to "take your little meth-heads elsewhere, and fuck that thing off before it dies, leaking shit everywhere" Also fun trivia, neither were wearing shoes, but they had socks on...no idea, but worth mentioning I think?

**Provisional plates or P-Plates, is what the kids get after the learners plates so they can drive by themselves, and everyone around can avoid them like disease, and not become part of some Darwin's Law death statistics.

That is a brilliant idea, it is kind of like having Maryland or New Jersey plates in the US.
