Well here is a thing. The hate for cockpit struts is real, so my suggestion: Give them a purpose.

What are struts for? Structural integrity. Why would you need that over your cockpit glass and all over your field of view? Why, RAMMING of course!

The Aurora, Constellation and Polaris may have annoying struts but are all wonderfully pointy and have the RAM endowing struts that will allow RSI ships to plough on through even the most shielded of hulls.

Got struts? Get Ramming. What else could they be for?

They already have a purpose. So that you don't feel like every single ship is the same while flying them. It gives some character and individuality to them.

The struts themselves are not the problem. The problem is they are too close together or too many and thick which blocks essential visual information. Another factor is that the player's view is too low in the cockpit which prevents a lot of peripheral vision information.

If they put a spike on the Andromeda, i would probably buy one :)
If i had a Polaris, i would not be able to afford torpedoes, so i would just ram things with it and then reclaim it.

*shrug*. They don't really bother me man. For the most part I don't turn my head but instead turn my ship towards whatever it is outside I want to look at. Anything behind a pillar is outside of my aiming circle anyway, so as long as it's not blocking a region of vision I can actually engage stuff in then I'm not overly bothered by it, and don't think it negatively impacts my flying. Landing is another problem, but if you've ever driven a big truck in backwards or something along those lines you've already experienced this sort of thing irl.

I honestly have not had a massive issue with the struts in most of my ships. There is enough feedback given from the ships radar and tracking systems that it's not a view issue, more of an annoyance.

When I hit a strut and my projectile shatters and gets blown into space just enjoy the sparks you saw and the minimal repair cost.
If I hit the glass and it cracks, due to the smaller area of the impact due to the presence of struts, which results in a non-penetration impact and allows you to continue flying then just be thankful you didn't have a huge massive surface area of glass covering you or you'd have nothing but the suit you are wearing worth of oxygen to get you safely back to a port.

Yes struts have a purpose, and are rather useful.

*point being* You can't see projectiles with the naked eye but the harm they cause, you can, so yes, struts are more than a visual impairment. They have a structural purpose that exceeds their impairment.

Struts also help to spread out the force of a large impact, say, an asteroid giving the glass a little kick. #loveforstruts
