Ah well..
I'm officially unemployed.
I work in film as a lighting technician/grip. Producers and Production Manager on the Disney show I've been on gathered the crew together at lunch yesterday and told us we've all been put on leave for a minimum of two weeks. This goes for all Disney productions Worldwide. Other studios are doing the same including the Netflix production I'm supposed to jump on as well. Film/TV productions have essentially ground to a halt. That's something like 35000 film workers/actors/teamsters/etc. in Vancouver and hundreds of thousands in North America.
This is unprecedented. Not during 9/11, 2008 recessions, etc. I think it'll get worse before it gets better.
Plus side is that I get to play more video games, down side is the gf will expect me to lavish more attention on her lol.
Preppers are fucking nuts. They're often losers in real life who want the Apocalypse to happen because they think it'll give them a fresh start as rulers of this brave new world of chaotic anarchy. Honestly if you're a fatass clutching to your AR, hoarding 5.56, and being an absolute dick about it....it's not martial law that's gonna kill you. It's your heart and/or diabetes because you haven't been taking care of yourself. It's aggravating when I see colleagues exhibit these views, I just tell them to STFU and reassess themselves. So I know a few guys who fancy them selves as "preppers." They're convinced that utilities are going to come to a halt and that we are going to see a massive amount of civil un-rest and a state of partial anarchy. While I'm in the process of re-financing my house at 2.9% for a 30 year fixed w/ zero points and I'm evaluating stock investments for after the fact... these guys are off hoarding ammo because they expect marauders to begin raiding their houses, or worse the government...
Now what's funny is that I grew up in the Army, I never served but I crawled on tanks, in and out of them, rode in jeeps and was accustomed to seeing men in fatigues walking around with any assortment of large weaponry... it was just normal, especially in Germany. So just from growing up with the military I know what we're capable of and I have full confidence that there will be no event so significant that total Anarchy will ensue or that power will go out and water will stop pumping through the pipes. IE if necessary our military will keep things under control and no number of gun-toting wanna-be red-necks will remotely pose a threat.
So if things get so bad that "marital law" is declared, what is my plan? Well I own a large SUV and it's still snowing here... so my intent is to find out how to volunteer my services and contribute as a member of the United States community. What are you going to do? Band with your fellow American, or take cover under your polished F350 and track passers by as they walk their dogs?

I'm saying this as a responsible gun owner and overall (I think) reasonable human being.
If shit hits the fan, I'll try my best to support my partner (Who's a frontline healthcare worker), my family, and my community.
Seriously, be good to each other.
Buy Bidets!Tell them to stop hoarding the toilet paper
Oh yeah my folks have 3 of them for all 3 toilets at their place. People are freaking out about TP and they're just laughing about it.Because when I visit Japan, I think they are great, I had one of these guys installed last year, so worth it. I just keep the heated seat off.
Japanese style Bidet toilet seat
That's fucking balls. I'm sorry to hear it. This is affecting so many people, in so many ways. But I have to commend the governments for making the tough calls to shut shit down, to flatten the curve, to give our healthcare systems the chance to keep up.Ah well..

My wife is too. Frontline nurse, and if/when the shit gets to Kingston, it'll be her unit that deals with it. So we hunker down, we pray that there measures being taken are enough to keep our loved ones safe, and we support our partners as they deal with the fallout of this pandemic.shit hits the fan, I'll try my best to support my partner (Who's a frontline healthcare worker), my family, and my community.
Where is the "6 months" number coming from? It's an honest question. That's fucking balls. I'm sorry to hear it. This is affecting so many people, in so many ways. It sucks in the meantime, but in 6 months, is this has blown over, it'll be because of the measures being taken now.
Virologist, science, models etc are predicting 3-6 months of outbreak - minimum, at least here in Canada. That being said, if we can slow the spread of this thing in that timeframe, and keep the healthcare system from being overwhelmed, as it has been in Italy, we may not have quite the death toll.Where is the "6 months" number coming from? It's an honest question.
Yeah my partner being the administrative type was put in charge of formulating some Covid19 plan for the hospital she's at. The director and doctors are pretty clueless about the whole thing so have deferred to her. She in turn has been consulting government bodies and the WHO. The basic conclusion is that North American hospitals are woefully unprepared..worse than Europe and light years behind the Asian countries tackling this better like South Korea and Singapore. Anyway the hospitals will be overwhelmed if we don't practice social isolation seriously. It's not about YOU, you're unlikely to get deathly sick. That said you may unwittingly pass it on to somebody else who can't cope with Covid19 better. Every person who has to be hospitalized for Covid19 just puts more strain on the system until it breaks. Consider the fact that people who have preexisting conditions like Cancer still need hospital care. Frontline Healthcare workers are already under a lot of stress, give them a break. My wife is too. Fuuuuuuck. This, visually, is identical to the map being used by Gov services to track this shit.FYI
Malicious coronavirus map hides AZORult info-stealing malware
Cyberattackers continue to seize on the dire need for information surrounding the novel coronavirus. In one of the latest examples, adversaries have created a weaponized coronavirus map app that infects victims with a variant of the information-stealing AZORult malware. Wash your hands.
Stay at home unless you ABSOLUTELY need to go out.
Play video games.
Honestly hospitals are swamped as it is. They have to worry about a revolving door of cancer patients, sick kids, and idiots who hurt themselves with sex toys (it's true). I think having a well formulated pandemic plan usually isn't something they give much thought to. There's also a limit to what they can do. If a hospital has 150 beds, they have 150 beds. If there are 50 ICU wards, there's 50 ICU wards. They can maybe reserve additional resources but that costs money. Ultimately hospitals also take their cue from the government health authorities. If our governments are indecisive or worse...incompetent, there's only so much they can do.Whats up with that?
I spoke to a friend of mine a large hospital three weeks ago. I asked what kind of preparations they had made.
None.
Just monitoring the situation she said.
Right. The biggest fear right now is a Triage situation like what's going on in Italy.
Preaching to the choir here.Right.
I hate to sound alarmist, but we should not be waiting for 20,000 cases in NY before action is taken.
I wish they would just look what these other countries have done, and get ahead of the numbers!
