You know what is possible, and maybe even likely. The versions of the common cold that usually infect huge numbers of us every year started as epidemics. That would probably have been 2 to 5 million years before modern humans even evolved. The longer time would be the most likely for Coronavirus variants, because almost all great apes can catch a Beta Corona Virus cold. That's the same family that COVID-19 comes from.

This is a very real possibility. I hope the trend continues as it seems this new variant is going to vaccinate everyone if they want it or not. To think we have all been infected by the coronavirus many times over the years and it's not going away any time soon. In many ways, covid-19 might have been a blessing of sorts in helping to push forward real technologies and stress testing our medical system/pandemic response.

It’s certainly propelled MRNA research into public awareness. As someone who has lost loved ones to Cancer, I’m cautiously optimistic that this new technology may hold the key to fighting this scourge.

Just in time for Christmas...with as infectious/transmissible the Omicron strain is, they are saying that cloth face masks are pretty much worthless, and we all should be wearing at least genuine surgical masks or N95 respirators. Merry Christmas!

Influenza-A came walking in our front door and reminded us that Covid ain't the only gangster in town.

Wife and I are both rekt, while the kids got over it as fast as Covid.

She got the flu shot in October too. This strain of Influenza sucks major donkey balls yo.

Vaccination does not prevent an infection, since you have to be infected for any vaccine to work. What it does is give your immune system the tools it needs to recognize and fight an infection. The good thing is, for the flu you feel like you have the flu almost right after you get the virus.
Hope you guys feel better soon! Nothing ruins a holiday like feeling sick.

This particular strain seem to like both flu and cold symptoms.

Most of the cold symptoms are fading but both of us are still nauseous.

I'm convinced I'm just reliving the 2019 flu season at this point. This is exactly what happened to us at the end of 2019.

The flu shot is better than nothing...I highly recommend it...but having said that, and echoing previous comments above, the flu shot relies on old tech, and is no where near as effective as the mRNA vaccines. Here's to hoping they apply the mRNA tech to the flu shots, and soon!

They already have mRNA flu shots. Being used in trials now.

Talking to my aunt, she goes to Walgreens / CVS a lot and asked them why they had such long lines for the covid tests. Normally you should get an appointment, but they told her they're all the people who didn't make one. As to why they needed to get tested in the first place, she was told most of them need it for their jobs. I guess companies around here are requiring negative tests, not sure if that's for just the unvaccinated or what.
