People are so angry. I just have to shake my head. What did CIG say about this ship before anyone bought it?

We were told it would be fragile but it has four times the hull and five times the shields of a Sentinel and it costs less! We were told it’s a multi crew ship but players are flying it solo. We were told as the Drake flagship it would have superior firepower compared to anything in its class—and it does and will continue to.

Where was the whining when the Redeemer got nerfed? Just let’s wait and see how this thing goes. Be happy if it doesn’t lose its S3 shield and half its hull points.

What they should change is make it like a Corsair—instead of flying like a garbage scow. The ship flies terribly, yet corsairs are typically agile ships. This desperately needs a hull nerf, a shield nerf and an agility buff. This ship is supposed to be fragile and has about the same hull as the Carrack. Does this make sense?

About removing the guns, I disagree. They’re going to move gun controls back to other positions to force multicrewing the ship—as was the original intention. It will have the same firepower but you’ll need a crew of four to use it.

The experience a crew of four should have aboard this ship is of everything blowing up and burning all around you as you desperately try to disable or destroy your target. That is not what happens because the ship has far too much hull and shield. We were specifically told “fragile as toilet paper” and that’s not the Corsair experience.

Is there a ship like the Corsair coming out? Maybe. The Zeus MR is pretty close to the same market. It’s a different approach to piracy. More refined. Less blasts. Maybe it’s time to reveal the MR?

100% the nerf is because of a shiny new ship coming in at CitCon....and at the same price lol. To the person posting on YT or Reddit on the video, no, the new ship doesn't have to be $5 less than the Corsair, since there are no more $0 CCU's, lol.

The sad part is, the whining and crying is going to hit a fever pitch, and then when the new meta ship rolls out, everybody is gonna quickly buy it and move on.

Lather, rinse, repeat, until SC is released.

Funny how that's one Nerf that doesn't hurt me.
Don't get me wrong, it's gonna sting a bit once the loss of two size 5 guns really hits home.
But I primarily fly the Corsair because, well it's one of the greatest designs CGI let me fly as of yet.
I love the interiour. Especially love the elevator top to bottom.
I hardly ever use it for combat.
Got an Eclipse to get on the nerves of big ships and an F8C for everythings else.
Talking about which... is there already a future competitor in sight that warrants a nerf for the Lightning?
Because somehow it feels like that's the next one on the list...

In the case of the Corsair, I believe control of the turret guns should get removed from the pilot and managed by a turret gunner, just as in the case of the Cutty, the pilot does not have control of the turret and same should apply to the SH.
Can't argue about turrets in general.
But those chin turrets are usually controlled by the pilot.
As seen on the Redeemer, the Spirit series, all F7s and F8s, the Terrapin, ...yadda, yadda.
The only ones i can think of with chin turrent and gunner controll are the Crusader A2 and M2 ships.
Never been a gunner on one of those so I do not know what it's like.
But I can't imagine that the movement range of those canons is bigger than the visual range of the copilot. In case of the Corsair that seems kinda limited.

Given the choice between all pilot guns down a size or two or having them split between the crew like this, which would you feel is the preferable option?
I prefer control thru team communication, and allowing me to pilot the ship and others to concentrate on keeping us alive in their tasks. No one seems to be upset that the components in larger ships can't be repaired while the pilot stays in the chair. Heaven forbit that if you fuck with the pew pew on a ship all hell brakes loose.

New ship has 6 size 4 guns and the pilot controls only 2 of them so it will be far below in DPS.

I'd rather they downsize the guns than split two to the copilot. The copilot already has a remote turret to run, and having him stand-by as a button pusher to fire two guns is... awkward.

Ultimately, my Corsair has always been expendable in my fleet. She isn't going anywhere quite yet though. Let's see how this pans out.

The corsair is probably the only ship in the game that i've evert thought deserves/requires a nerf, its ridiculously overgunned for the pilot and the type of ship it is. Come on think about it it has as much firepower as a 600i plus a vanguard plus a 400i for gods sake thats mad :p

It's another case of "Oh shit, we built this and it's TOO strong". Even though I don't own a Corsair, my opinion is that they should just leave it in and deal with it having the high kill counts.

What has actually happened though is a bit more complex. As has been pointed out elsewhere, the Corsair's lack of agility was supposed to make up for it's extraordinary DPS. Dropping to size 4 gimballed weapons was the 'balance' intended to enable it to successfully engage smaller ships. When gimbals were added everywhere, many ships got a huge boost in APPLIED damage and probably none more so than than the Corsair.

Handed this problem my first reaction would have been to drop the front guns all back to size 4. That would still give the ship 6 of those on gimbals and not mess with crew assignments or require any other hand-wavium. Since CIG did not to that, they must have felt it important for some reason to retain the size 5 hardpoints. I'll put forth the idea that size 5 weapons are intended to be a 'sweet spot' for armor and hull penetration, a mechanic that will be needed to damage other ship's components. This thought is somewhat supported by past CIG statements about 'weapon roles' in that size 4 and below are mostly intended as anti-fighter tools.

EDIT: This also seems to be supported by the carnage inflicted on the Redeemer. What was once a fantastic missioning ship is now a more mobile anti-fighter screen, like a smaller Hammerhead. It's a complete change of role on the battlefield and my gut reaction is that it's now a waste of players.. we'll have to see.

There is also the reality now that this forces the Corsair to have a second person along for max effectiveness, and that second person must choose between offensive or defensive actions. This makes an already easy-to-kill ship even more of a fat target for PvP'ers, not at all the direction CIG should be taking to encourage multicrew play. Unless they go full remote turret for the bottom two, allowing the copilot complete 360 degree engagement.

As Yogi stated in his response on the thread, CIG wants to spread out the firepower amoung the crew. As @RoosterRage pointed out, the leaked information about the new medium ship is 6 size 5 weapons spread out to 3 players.. On paper, not competitive with the Corsair for solo play.

So no surprise to anyone, there are elements of marketing, shifting gameplay goals, and unrealized technical systems involved.
