DAMMIT

I wanted a dedicated merc/bounty ship that i could use that wasn't the redeemer (because its my least favorite looking ship in the game) and cutlass just doesn't have the same firepower

Ill probably wait and see how modular ships get and may just use my connie or my freelancer as a dedicated boarding vessel if it can put stuff like docking clamps on it

if they are far out shined by the redeemer i guess ill have to move to that

WHY DID THEY PICK THE REDEEMER all the other ships were so much cooler :(

IIUC, there were limits on the weapons any of the gunships in the competition could carry, and they had to create a blind spot of some sort so like all the other ships, there would be some vulnerability built in. Given those things in mind, its worth noting the Redeemer makes extremely efficient use of space, and forms a much smaller target than ships like the Scimitar. That means better shielding with the same power, lower radar cross section, and much harder to hit. The Redeemer also has vastly superior pilot's view than the Scimitar. It is not as pretty but it will be a more effective ship.

If you absolutely hate the Redeemer, I suggest you consider the Hoplite. A pair of Hoplites teamed with a Sentinel ought to be able to take down unescorted StarG's, Reclaimers, Connies, Lancers, Endeavors, Crucibles, etc., pretty easily. 3 Vanguard cost much more than a Redeemer, but they ought to be more effective too.

Hmmm....

I think I'll have to leave this ship. From what I understand it is a small lightly armored boarding ship that relies on stealth to infiltrate enemy space, which means that if it is discovered it will explode easily. Assuming you're all sneaky like, and manage to reach a target ship, you then have to take on the crew of said ship with the limited crew you have.

Also keep in mind that judging by its size, it will not be capable of operating entirely by itself and therefore must need a mother-ship for deep space operations. It would also mean that any ship you do target needs to be much larger than you in order for the operation to be profitable.

The element of surprise in it's stealthiness will offset by the presence of it's support ship?
And if you have to attack a larger target for a larger profit-risk ratio, you would need more of them or more boarding crew which will lower that ratio?

will look, but unless it's freaking fantastic, is bigger than a carrack, hauls around 20 troops plus ship's crew, a med bay, 2 snub fighters, 3 argos, has enough weapons to melt a small planet, plus the armor to stand up to it, that is WAY to freaking much for a troop transport/boarding craft.

I am getting more and more concerned that CIG staffed up too much thinking the gravy train would keep rolling in and is now trying to desperately trying to find a way to sustain the $15-30 million/year that kind of staffing requires..

They could support that 15-30M if they sold more the ships at a lower price. This isnt just about making money this is about CR trying to create artificial rarity. We have seen them attempt this in the Glaive fight fiasco which just ended up horribly. we have seen this in the little arcade game that ended up everyone completing it and not making the ship rare. They tried it with the limited ship per sell per timezone but illegal bots ended up grabbing them. So now they are trying to make it too pricey so if your poor fuck you. This is going to backfire again. Artificial rarity is something that rarely happens and often backfires.

This is something I dont understand about CR he wants ships to be rare and he doesnt want people to know about the Idris design. Then he wants to universe to feel "lived in". Regret to say it but I think he's doing it wrong. People are going to get the terrapin if they want it. Once the game is out and every one that eanted a terrapin has a Terrapin will it feel "lived in". Yes! Because people are piloting the ship they wanted. Without CR artificial rarity scheme the universe will feel better off lived in. Now yes some ships do need a scheme such as the glaive as there is a lore reason why they are rare. As for the whole Idris plans in the dark... Do civilians know what the inside of the newest US carrier looks like? Yes! Can you see the floor design for the newest US carrier? YES! (Well all the unclass stuff) So why does CR so pinned on the Idris plans being not known to civilians? Because CR cares more about a mere few minutes of surprised then months of complaining.

its a good ship and the most efficient but it just .....it just looks like garbage :(
In game mechanics its probably is the best but its just so uninspired in design

Eventually they will add other gunships im sure just for now it just tastes so bland!

If you hate the no-airframe design of the Redeemer, you'll likely love the airframe design of the Vanguard. The stats say that in vacuum the Redeemer ought to be the better performer, but in atmosphere the Vanguard will likely be the better choice. They're about the same price and the Redeemer requires more than twice the crew, so hard to compare.

If you compare by firepower over dollars spent, the Redeemer is the best value short of a cap ship. (That FP/$ figure does and should climb as the expense of military ships climbs.) If instead you look at firepower over player positions, which is in many ways a more salient figure for combat comparisons; the Vanguards are all impossible to beat until you again are looking at Cap ships. A Redeemer needs 4 players minimum, and 4 players in any pair of Vanguard could cut a Redeemer to ribbons. So do keep in mind you only get to fill one position and need other players to operate effectively on any of these ships. That being the case, if you want to go Privateer, shoot me a note.

This week has actually been the first time I considered to try to sell some of my fleet. With the price of the prowler, the lack of any sign of 2.6 or star marine or Squadron 42, and the holidays.... a lot invested and I fear I'm not losing interest but the hype train has gotten on the wrong track....

Anniversary sale will hopefully bring the train either back on track or give us a glimmer of something.
