I've did some reading and from what I can tell the F7C can be outfitted with the same components and weapons as the F7C-M SH. And so the only difference would be that the F7C-M SH has a 2nd cockpit.

Does the F7C-M SH have more armor? Have I missed any other advantages of the F7C-M SH?
Thank you in advance.

The F7C-M Super Hornet is the closest you can get to an actual military loadout. Here is a page for the F7C with a link to the other varients:

Sorry I was not clear with the question I wanted to ask.
Let's say in-game right now, I outfitted my Hornet to the exact same components and weapons as the Super Hornet, what would be the difference between the 2 ships other than the Super has an extra cockpit?

I believe that the F7C does not have an option for the canard nose turret. That is something only available on the F7CM-SH. Don't believe that the F7C has a hardpoint for the nose turret.
The F7C has a size 3 on the nose where you can attach a S3 nose turret (2x S1 same as the super). As far as I can tell the 2 ships can be outfitted with the exact same weapons & components.

There must be lots of SH owners that don't like the default configuration, why buy the SH and switch out all the components and weapons when you could buy the Hornet and do the same for 39% cheaper?

The extra co-pilot seat on the Super isn't an issue for me, if you have an extra player why have him sit in the back? Let him take another ship out for double the effectiveness. 2 SH is surely better than 1 SH with a co-pilot...

What I'm concern mainly is that the SH might have more armor, or other advantages I wasn't aware of.

Only difference would be that the Super hornet is slow as F''' cause it got one extra seat and a bit more armor
The other hornets are a lot faster and more nimble ... and yes all Hornets guns, turrets etc... are interchangeable between them.
It can vary some on the hard-points but I guess the question is about the turret or the fire mount and it can be fitted to any hornet.

Can you put the ball turret up top on the standard hornet though? I thought that was the major difference between the two.
You could do it before, don't see why they would have change that.. might be good to test to get fresh update on that... 🍻

Oh you can put the canard turret on the F7C, except you would have to steal it from a F7CM. That is what I am saying.

The only differences hull wise between the variants that I have found, is that the Ghost has a special hull that is more stealthy, yet less armored.

Cost of a ship does not equate to a more efficient ship for its role. You are paying to back the game, the pixels the ship is made of is just a "thank you" for doing so.

Case in point:
Reliant Kore is $85, while the Hull A is $60. Kore has 6 SCU while the Hull A has 48 SCU. Both can pretty much only haul cargo.

The quick answer is, right now in game, there really isn't any difference between the two in what you can outfit them with. The real differences are the extra seat and the 10 km/s slower speed with the Super Hornet.

Originally, there were more differences, real and planned...like in 2.6 & before, the Super Hornet had quad shields (Front, Back, L & R) while the regular model only had Front and Back (no L or R). Also, the original specs said that the Super Hornet would have an interstellar jump drive, while the regular Hornet did not come with it standard (but you could buy it).

So, in the future there may be more to distinguish the models, but right now? Nah...

In the current state it appears that the difference between the F7C and F7C-M is very small, and the only key difference is the second seat.

In the past, around version 2.6.0 the difference was quite significant and the Super Hornet was well worth it's money, as the SH would be a direct competitor to the Sabre. According to the lore Sabre was in competition to replace the F7A Hornet from the UEE military, together with other ships, but eventually the F8A has won the competition, so Aegis Dynamics started selling Sabre to civilians. The SH would be a brawler with more brute force and longevity in dogfights, while Sabre would be a stealthy alpha-striker. Both SH and Sabre would be much stronger than a standard Hornet. Pretty much (not exactly though) the SH to a Hornet was something like a Vanguard to Sabre.

The key differences and advantages of SH over the standard Hornet from the ship info page, the concept, and comments from the game designers, as far as I remember, were that:

  • Super Hornet has the second seat, which can be used in combat, as a armed taxi, special seat could be installed for strapping and transporting the bounty/prisoner, can be swapped out for storage (armor, weapons, etc.).
  • Super Hornet could have a 1 size up power plant over the standard Hornet, which will enable to utilise the full Hornet platform potential. From memory the default Hornet power plant size was 3, and SH could have size 4. Currently the sizing has changed and it's Small / Medium / Large. Size 4 would be same as current Medium size power plant, like what the Terrapin has.
  • Super Hornet could have a 1 Thrust Ratio up engine over the standard Hornet, which would equalize it's sluggish performance in comparison with the standard Hornet. At that time engines were differentiated by Thrust Ratio. The default Hornet engine thrust ratio was 3, and SH could have TR 4. In comparison, Constellation Andromeda had TR5 engines.
  • Super Hornet had a much stronger hull than a Hornet.
  • Super Hornet had a different shield system. At those times shield systems were: Bubble (a single shield covering the whole ship, if damaged the whole shield was depleted and regenerated), FrontBack (shield covvering front and back sections, either could be damaged, and regenerated separately; also, a full shield could transfer some health to the damaged shield together with the damaged shield regenerating, so that the damaged shield regenerates faster; moreover, you could increase the front or back shield), and Quadrant (4 sections of the shield, all can be damaged and regenerated, and increased individually; if 1 section was damaged, 3 other sections would transfer some shield to the damaged, therefore regenerating the damaged section very quickly). A Hornet had FrontBack shield type, and Super Hornet had a Quadrant shield type.

I've done some research and we had some discussions around those times, if you are interested:

Today the Hornet and the SH are made pretty much the same, except the extra seat, which is disappointing. So, I would be really keen on Super Hornet reinstated into what it was supposed to be: "a truly terrifying mark to engage".

IIRC the only "real" difference between the base and super hornet is the fact that the super has a second seat and the super hornet (at one point, it's so confusing keeping track of all this shit as it changes) had a larger maximum size power plant.

This was before they went with Small/Medium/Large/Capital for shield sizes and power, so no idea how it relates now lol

You can get the Hornet Special Turret from GH or Levski. For about 7K
Yeah I know, had Hornet's a long long long time... tho recently I gone over to only using Sabre... 🤪 ..but miss my hornet's

And my last swarm I did with Hornet ended like this ....

After that I switched to Sabre and that ended like this....

CHEERS! 🍻

Thanks everyone! In my case I guess I will go with the Hornets, if they make the 2 models more distinguished in the future I can always upgrade, but if nothing changes I don't have to melt my game packages and redo from start.

there is one model, I forget which it is, with 25% larger fuel capacity

If everything else is interchangeable, I would start with that one

There are a few reasons for that back seat. A second ship is not always better or even a good idea.
The brochure even mentions a lockdown mode for carrying bounties.

FYI, here is the thread I started back in 2017 asking the same question, lol:

It went to 6 pages! I think the conclusion was the same, basically, there isn't anything you can't buy that would give the F7C single seat the same load-out, guns, etc. as the Super Hornet, *except* the Super has the two seats and slightly slower speed.

For the record, I upgraded my Super Hornet to a Vanguard, and I love it!

My better half still has a Super Hornet. Like you, I also upgraded to the Vanguard. I have a strange feeling that the Carrier birds, like the Hornet, are going to be less sought after after once the Nyx, or other system on the other side of Pyro is added to the PU.

Carrier birds have enough fuel to cross the Stanton system but not much more.

And therin lies the crux, single seat fighters are designed to be operated in system or off a carrier of some sort. This isn't Star Wars where you can jump clear across the galaxy in an X-wing. Something with a larger profile will be able to make system to system moves, but the small stuff? You are probably paying to relocate it.
