Is there an attachment for the multitool that allows for salvaging/scraping?

I believe so, i've seen a few vids now with people using the salvage attachment.
I'll have to track one down eventually. Someone said in-game they saw some at Port Olisar.

I managed to start doing some work in my Vulture until I my inventory bugged, and I couldn't switch to my tractor beam attachment for the multitool. So, I've only gotten 1 SCU of salvage thus far.

Think i'll wait for the hype to die down first. Apparently 1 SCU worth of cargo is 8800 aUEC, the ship stores 12 SCU (105600 aUEC) but you can squeeze in 17 SCU if managed properly (149600 aUEC)

Here is some more salvage action. Seeing them work with the Hull A wants me to get a salvage fleet together with a couple Vultures and a Cat to load the cargo into. Probably want to take at least one escort out there too, as I've run into some NPCs that have jumped me in my Vulture.

I heard you could get it at Cubby Blast in A18, though didn't verify myself. Also you don't NEED the tractor beam, just sprint straight into the SCU box and you can pretty easily 'bump' it out of the way. I was actually surprised at how much 'better' the physics seemed to be when I did this!

Damn, I always thought the Hulls were kinda dumb with their cargo exposed on the outside, guess I'm getting proved a bit wrong!
Efficient cargo transport is an interesting subject. If you look at what we do IRL, cargo containers are loaded essentially on the outside of ships, trains and trucks. The Sikorsky Skycrane is used when other solutions just can't manage. External carry actually depends upon better containers, but it has always been a great solution. The Hull series is meant to reflect this, and to some degree the Railen as well.

I grew up in transportation and did careful study in future aerospace transport years ago. External carry is definitely the way to go. As of yet, no notion whether Elon has figured this into his Mars plans yet. The trouble with current aerospace not reflecting the general wisdom in the field is that on launch, you can't have external cargo. So today we put stuff in a container, stick it on a truck, the truck loads a train, the train loads a ship, the ship unloads onto a train and a truck. You can't do this when you're going thousands of mph in atmo as the cargo would be lost. The solution is to load from launch vehicles onto external carry interplanetary tugs, then land them again with launch vehicles. CIG plans to do something similar with the big Hulls which can't land. They'll have to be loaded on orbit.

Wow. Is it just me, or does this seem kinda excessive? I mean, it's not quite as much as a prospector full of quantanium, but you also don't need to spend an hour looking for that rare & decent rock to mine. Nor do you need to wait for the refinery cycle either.

I suppose they'll tweak it like they always do.

Great vids. A few questions:

Where does the multi-tool scraper deposit its material? What do you need short of a scraper craft to patch holes on another ship? What's the protocol for preparing to repair your own ship? you need a multi-tool scraper attachment--does both scrape and deposit? and what?

The balancing factor seems come down to how much time it takes to create that 1 SCU. In the same time it took me to fill a box, I could have knocked out a couple combat service beacons, illegal monitors (provided the monitors spawn as expected) fast enough to make more money off them. And if I include high-capacity trading......

Well as the salvage tiers increase and the power/fuel lines get added into the game we're now looking at the risk of blowing ourselves up just as easily as mining quant.

IMHO, salvaging wrecks should be much more lucrative than mining, but there needs to be a scarcity of wrecks such that they're highly sought, their locations can be sold to others, and so salvage players have reason to risk entering old battlefields for cash. There needs to be sufficient reason to brave salvaging a Void Bomber when you know the Vanduul might return to the area.

Think the Cat will be an A or S-tier choice as the cargo companion, at least once its tractor beam is implemented. Cargo pods with open sides, tractor beam, high cargo capacity, s5 turrets in the event you get jumped...
