Well some interesting reports on my TV 6 o'clock news just now:
POTUS has suggested on top of banning bump stocks raising the age of buying a wider range of weapons to 21 and bringing in a stricter set of background checks including comprehensive mental health checks.
No sign of a register of owners, not quite a secure storage law in homes with young children, but what has been suggested so far are quite a few steps along the journey...
He also suggested arming teachers, the NRA was reported to have backed this measure.
Well, i'm going to remain neutral on this because I think that as compromise it's a decision America needs to make. It's not one I personally feel is 100% perfect - do I think arming Teachers will lead to escalation? Definitely how can it not...? But thats compromise, and if thats the NRAs price to ensure they don't block the only opportunity in a hundred years for the Militia to be "well-regulated" well maybe it's time the compromises were made...
But this can't be a Pandoras Box, once the teachers are armed that isn't a "thats just the way it is now" moment: the first teacher that goes Postal and pulls a pistol on a naughty class and plugs 'em the concept of teachers with guns needs to be re-evaluated.
But its been too long. Too many dead when they shouldn't be. Doing nothing is no longer an option. Time to do something. Anything. As long as it works.
