You should definitely read it. You're doing it in the proper order too. If you were to read the book and then watch the movie, you would find the movie incredibly inadequate. They left so much out. They did decent with what they had, but the book has alot of needed info. Hell, they even felt the need to hand out a glossary of terms with the ticket when the movie first released.

The book series is a very expansive story though. It's part of the whole "space opera" genre. If you find you like it, you should try (if you already haven't that is):

Enders series by Orson Scott Card
Night's Dawn series by Peter Hamilton
Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard (don't bother with the movie though)
Expanse series by James S. A. Corey (the show is killer too)

There are quite a few other good ones, but those with Dune round out my top 5.

I heard the miniseries was good but have not seen it. That seems to me the best way to cope with a book of this length or a series of books. I have not seen the Shannara Chronicals but heard it is good too--similar approach to moving stuff to screen.

unfortunately Dune was a failure movie ... for some of us who read the book - it was understandable and sometimes even good, but for the general audience an attempt to achieve the same depth as book failed miserably (and it is very very sad :( )

My favorite scene in David Lynch's Dune was at the start where the emperor gets a visit from the 3rd stage guild navigator. I can't wait to show up in Pyro and say to the port officer, "I've just folded space from Nyx."

That was an amazing set. So opulent, and typical of the production values in the film.

I've got so many, rough count is 12 but there could be more... we've ordered them in what we expect to be good/bad. We've got an unknown quantity next, it's just finding the time to get it on the tv.

Lol no worries, I just got through watching all the cinematics from WC3 and 4. And some behind the scenes footage, the WC3 ones were a laugh :smile:
